The Gold Coast Business Expo is this Thursday June 24 at the Carrara Indoor Sports Stadium. Surfers Sunrise will again be helping with the ‘Bump-in’ on Wednesday 23rd from 2 pm and the ‘Bump-out’ as well as will assisting with the Car Parking and having a Stand. We have a good number of Rotarians helping on the day but please come down and visit if you can. Our Corporate Members InvincAble will also be exhibiting at the Expo so make sure you say g’day.

We have received a wonderful letter and report of the distribution of 20 Wheelchairs by the Rotary Club of Port Alfred, South Africa (Hello – great to hear you read our bulletin!). An excerpt of the report reads; ‘It has been the most rewarding project we have done for some time (along with our covid-inspired food parcels project), and we found the excitement and hope the wheelchairs brought to previously immobile people of all ages and both genders was touching and inspiring.’ Another example of the great work our Wheelchairs Project does throughout the world and what it means to people. Please see the report in the Download section on the right. Well done again to everyone involved.

And another reminder that Sunday 4th July is the Surfers Sunrise Winter Lunch and Changeover. This social lunch will be at Links Hope Island Golf Club. It’s a great venue and we look forward to seeing you all there for an afternoon of socialising.

See you Wednesday morning for a Formal Meeting at the Surf Club where yours truly will be updating you all on the ‘State of the Stockmarket’.  Al Sirovs is on the door and Ramiz Salib is Chairman.

This coming Wednesday 23rd June: State of the Stockmarket
This coming Wednesday, President Charles Thomasson will present on the current situation of the stockmarket.  Originally planned for '100 days after Joe Biden's inauguration), what is the situation now, 5 months later? As a professional Financial Advisor (Charles is a partner in Wilsons Advisory), there wouldn't be anyone in our club who knows more about shares and investments. Order your breakfast in the downstairs bistro and take it to the upstairs venue for some fellowship before the meeting starts at 07:30 am sharp.
New Wheelchair Trust websites are now LIVE!
After several months of numerous design planning meetings under the guidance of Mario Fairlie, an awful lot of hard coding work (yes, hundreds of hours in total) by the main developers Craig Parker (Digital Connections), Rotaractors Kristen 'KJ' Jewson and Matt Haywood as well as other members of the Burleigh Heads Rotaract Club, the new Wheelchair Trust websites are now LIVE! Websites? You mean there is more than one? Yes! We have the Wheelchair Trust website, as well as a site dedicated to the Moana Hospital X-Ray Unit, now almost ready to go to Vanuatu.  Click on these links:

A big THANK YOU! go to the dedicated development team, who all worked on a voluntary basis. Furthermore, Craig Parker arranged free Google Adwords advertising.  All going according to plan, this should assist us to raise much needed funds in support of our wheelchairs and building projects.
Wonderful feedback from South Africa
Last week we received some wonderful feedback from the Rotary Club of Port Alfred, South Africa.  This club has been in charge of distributing 20 of our "Rough Terrain" wheelchairs to worthy recipients. And they would have many more who are in need of them.

A copy of their report, as well as some photo compilations, can be accessed from the Download Page on the right. How good is that!
Photo above: Do we have an African model of our 'Happy' boy who is displayed on our promo material? smiley

Winter Luncheon & Changeover at the Links Hope Island
Incoming President Paul Seymour and President Charles Thomasson cordially invite you, your partners and friends to join us at the  Winter Luncheon & Changeover on Sunday, 4th July 2021, at the Links Hope Island Golf Club.

This year, to maximize the social aspect, the format will be slightly changed: All formalities will be commenced immediately upon everyone being seated. It is planned to fit into a, say, 35 minutes time frame, after which we'll have a 3-course Luncheon (Vegetarian and Vegan options available), enjoying fellowship. Note: we deliberately title it 'Winter Luncheon'; we really would like our partners, family and friends to come along, making it a real social event!

Bookings are open now - please click on this link: https://www.trybooking.com/BREDU - please book online, we need to provide exact numbers by 24th June.

No idea when it will finish, but don't expect too much change from the afternoon... ☺
Botanical Bazaar: we've been offered a stand
On 31st July - 1st August, the Rotary Club of Gold Coast runs their annual Botanical Bazaar, a major Garden Festival. We have been offered to run a stand, at no charge, where we could promote our wheelchairs and other projects. Of course, this requires some people who are prepared to man the stand on that Saturday and/or Sunday.  Interested? Full details on the brochure in our Download section on the right. Please communicate with Larry Murray directly.  Click here to send him an email.

Inspirations - well, sort of... 230621
I know a great joke in sign language. Guaranteed - nobody has ever heard it.

So you think you are smarter than the "old" generation? Well, try this for size: 50 years ago, the car manual advised how to adjust the valves.  Today, it warns you not to drink the fluid from the battery.  Tanya Porter.

Must be time to change the smoke alarm batteries. (As a general rule, it's a good idea to do that every time there is a major leadership change in Canberra) devil
