On Saturday we delivered 2 POD’s to Warren Smith, Senior Minister at the Encounter Church in Labrador. It has been a big effort by PP Mario Fairlie and the Shed Volunteers to get the PODs manufactured and delivered this year – thank you to everyone involved. We will deliver another POD this Saturday and we look forward to hearing from Senior Minister Warren about the POD’s helping homeless people in his community.
It is great to see we have 2 nominees for the upcoming RYLA camp in January – congratulations to Kristen ‘KJ’ Jewson and Sasha Kimber. Both KJ and Sasha are members of the Burleigh Heads Rotaract Club and we wish them well on RYLA.
We are on the final stretch on what has been a very long year with three major Surfers Sunrise Events remaining.
Firstly, this Thursday we have the ‘Italian Long Lunch’ at Gemelli’s at Broadbeach from 12pm. Thank you very much on behalf of the club to Johnny Bueti for organising. Johnny has put a huge effort into arranging all facets of the lunch including the guest list, menu, drink, sponsors, entertainment and raffle prizes. It is going to be a fantastic afternoon!
Next Wednesday, we have the Rotary Surfers Sunrise Christmas Breakfast at Edgewater, Isle of Capri – please book here if you haven’t already https://www.trybooking.com/BMXNN
Finally, on Sunday 20th December we have a Bunnings Sausage Sizzle at Bunnings Southport. Geoff Croad will be asking for volunteers!
This Wednesday we'll have our AGM upstairs at the Surf Club. Shane Aitken from the SPSLC Supporters Club will also join us to update us briefly on plans for the Surf Club. I look forward to seeing you from 7am.
This coming Wednesday 9th December at our usual location at the Surfers Paradise Surf Club, upstairs venue: AGM, President Elect Paul Seymour will be confirming the incoming Board and Committee positions for 2021/22 as well as forward planning. Secretary Mitch Brown sent out all the relevant documents to all members on 25/11/20. If you don't have a copy: it's also on Clubrunner, in the Member's Area: Organisation, Documents, Secretary... (you need to log in). Or drop me a message l and I'll send you a copy. There are also a number of non-board positions to be filled too, so you need you to be there (or you might be "elected" in absentia! ☺). There should also be some time to discuss other club business.
Bookings are now open for our Christmas Breakfast will be on Wednesday, 16th December. This year, we'll have it at the Edgewater Dining and Lounge restaurant (where we had our Changeover in July). Graeme Isaacson has organised a delicious TRIPLE alternative drop: Eggs Benedict, or Omelette, or a Vegetarian meal (with egg) - to be confirmed.
Angus "Onion King" Miller and Geoff Croad are looking for helpers at the upcoming Bunnings Sausage Sizzle on Sunday, 20th December. A Roster will be circulated at this Wednesday's meeting, alternatively, please click on either of these links to email Angus or Geoff directly, or send a text or call. Thank you.
Youth Service Director PDG Darrell Brown has nominated Sasha Kimber to join Kristen "KJ" Jewson (see Bulletin of 25th November) at the upcoming RYLA camp in January 2021. Here is her brief Bio: "I'm a small-town girl born and raised in Emerald Central QLD. My first introduction to Rotary was in 2015 where I worked with The Rotary Club of Emerald Sunrise to establish the Central Highlands Interact Club. This gave me the amazing opportunity to be sponsored for a Rotary Youth Exchange which I completed in Taiwan for the duration of 2017. Now I am in the final year of my bachelor's degree studying Actuarial Science and majoring in Big Data. Following the completion of my degree, I hope to work in Data analytics and eventually transition into Crime Statistics. I am a member of the Burleigh heads Rotaract club and look forward to continuing to work with Rotary in the future."
Looking forward to meeting you soon at one of our meetings, Sasha!
Last Saturday morning, we loaded the first two of the 'Sleeping Sanctuary' Pods for delivery to the Encounter Church, Labrador. The Reverend Warren Smith took delivery. How great to have the now regular bunch of strong Rotaractors at the Project Shed to help lifting them up onto the trailer and then unloading at the destination. Thanks fellows for your help! OK, Rotarians are meant to be staid, conservative and conventional... or so the theory (of many outsiders) goes. So what if you are a rabid fan of Motorhead, Ironmaiden, Deep Purple, KISS, or even Pink Floyd or The Rolling Stones if you are that old, or Muse and Nightwish if you are a bit younger? Even Jethro Tull might qualify (even though that might be just a bit too conventional...) 😉 Don't despair: a new Rotary Fellowship has been founded, the Rotarian Metalhead Fellowship. Yup - it's world-wide, you can join. Click here to go to their website: metalheadfellowship.org- it's all there!
Duty Roster - note: subject to change - please check every week. Note: Fellowship duty also is expected to be at the Project Shed on the Saturday following the meeting
We need to form a Conflict Resolution Team to decide on who should head our Conflict Resolution Team.
Societies of amateurs are full of opinionated ignoramuses. But vibrant democracies depend on an overabundance of opinionated ignoramuses, conspiracy theorists, quacks, know-nothings, and other loudmouths. Freethinkers will think what they want. Isaac Newton spent more time on alchemy and the occult than he did on the theory of gravity.Salvatore Babones, ‘The New Authoritarianism’
[Just in case you thought I meant you: Of course not. Never thought you were opinionated. ☺ Ed.]
I ate four cans of Alphabet Soup, and probably had the biggest vowel movement I've ever had.
