Congratulations this week goes to Ian Mayberry who is one of the winners of the Award for Services to Sport by the Queensland Department
of Sport for all his years of service to the industry.
Well done to all those who helped out last Sunday at the Bunnings BBQ, it was good fellowship as well as raising much needed funds. Saturday morning Larry, Des and the President met with Georgie, Bella and Sammy and ran through all the processes at the Shed as well as the history of the Wheelchairs with 180 Degrees Consulting who will be looking to make a formal presentation to the Club in the coming weeks.
A reminder to all Board members our next board meeting has been moved to a Thursday so as not to clash with our social Wednesday social meeting
President Paul Seymour
This Wednesday: Nigel Fotheringham, Angel Flight

Nigel Fotheringham is a pilot for Angel Flights. This organisation is a charity which coordinates non-emergency flights to assist country people to access specialist medical treatment that would otherwise be unavailable to them because of vast distance and high travel costs.

All flights are free and may involve travel to medical facilities anywhere in Australia.

Last Bunnings sausage sizzle for 2021
On Sunday, Surfers Sunrise was out in force at Bunnings, creating that irresistible flavour of barbequed sausages and fried onions.  Photo shows the last shift of the day (from left): Al Sirovs, Darrell Brown, Geoff Croad, Charles Thomasson and Doug Lipp.  The first shift was taken by Andy Bell, Paul O'Neill, Brian Pearson and Ashleigh Symes, the middle shift by Gerald East, Mario Fairlie, Neil Thurlow and Rick Perry. Organising it all and procuring the drinks, sausages, condiments and onions, as always: Geoff Croad and Angus "Onion King" Miller.  Thank you to all the helpers, and thank you to Bunnings Southport, who provided the marquee, barbeque and gas!
Collecting Gold Coins at Horizon Boat Show
Paul O'Neill teamed up with the Northern Gold Coast Rotaractors to manage the parking at last weekend's Horizon Shores Boat Show in Jacobs Well.
Picture above shows Trent and Joe (President) setting up. Good work, fellows!

Thank you letter from Kilu'ufi Hospital, Solomon Islands
Whilst we have no doubt that all our wheelchairs arrive at their destination and are most appreciated by their recipients, it's always nice to receive formal acknowledgment.  Recently, a letter arrived from Richard Maegerea, Director Nursing at Kilu'ufi Hospital in Malaita Province, Solomon Islands. Richard confirms the very purpose of why we make these wheelchairs:
"... this donation will for sure touch the lives of some of our patients, which will enable them mobilised..."
The full letter is in the download section on the right.
All of you who work on wheelchairs and/or are involved in getting them to the "end-user" and raise funds to make it possible: give yourself a pat on the back!
Remember all those chairs we cleaned up?
Remember all those chairs we cleaned up and loaded onto a container for the Solomon Islands, on the last Saturday in August (photo right)? Well, they have arrived over there, and the local Rotaractors are involved in their distribution big time... In the Download section on the right is a pictorial of them receiving and distributing the goods, sent by our logistics specialist Col Laurenson who is arranging all the container traffic for us.
Give yourself a pat on the back, people!

Inspirations - well, sort of... 241121
It's Thanksgiving Day in the US this Thursday 25th November...
A man does not start out ready-made. He is the product of countless emergencies, bravely met and overcome โ€“ each of which leaves in his personality its own deposit of wisdom and power.  Reverend John Flynn, founder of the Flying Doctor Service.
  1. After almost an hour, we were finally in the air. "We much regret the delay before we are able to take offโ€œ the chief steward announced, "the pilot was bothered by a noise in the engine.โ€
  2. When the hostess served drinks, I asked her what the problem was?
  3. "It took them ages to find a new pilot.โ€
