It is a FREE BBQ Breakfast and we will have guests from the Rotary Clubs of Broadbeach and Gold Coast as well as other special guests. See you all there anytime after 7am – it’s not a formal meeting so it doesn’t matter if you turn up for 15mins or an hour or two. Full details in the Bulletin below but the address is 175 Napper Road, Arundel (next to the Parkwood Arundel Community Centre).
This Friday, Surfers Sunrise will participate in the Rotary Centenary Baton Relay to Celebrate 100 Years of Rotary in Australia. Meet at the Rotary Broadwater Chapel at 10:15 am (plenty of parking near the Chapel). Please see full details in the Bulletin below but please wear your Purple Baton Relay or Rotary Surfers Sunrise shirt. It is a once in a lifetime experience for all Rotarians to celebrate so please come on down!
This Friday Evening at 5pm, we are all invited to a Sausage Sizzle Celebrating the Baton Relay at the Rotary Kokoda Memorial Wall at Cascade Gardens. The BBQ will be run by the Rotary Clubs of Broadbeach and Mermaid Beach and other Clubs in attendance include Broadwater Southport, Runaway Bay and Parkwood. It will be a great way to celebrate 100 Years of Rotary in Australia with our fellow Rotarians.

This coming Wednesday, 14th April, we'll meet at the Project Shed instead of the Surf Club, to receive an update on our X-Ray Unit for Vanuatu project (image on left). Angus 'Onion King' Miller will have the Bar-be-que on full speed from 07:00 am onwards and cook a hearty breakfast for you! Guests and visitors welcome - why not invite a friend to come along?
This year, Rotary celebrates its 100 Year Anniversary since the first clubs were formed in Sydney, Melbourne and Auckland. A Baton Relay is conducted to highlight this event. In conjunction a theme of "Rotary says NO to Domestic Violence" has been adopted. Our club, Surfers Sunrise, will participate in the Relay with a special twist: we'll run with our wheelchairs! So, set the Friday 16th April aside and be in it! Our club will be in charge of the Baton from10:30 to 12:00 pm when we hand it over to Broadwater Southport Rotary at the Gold Coast University Hospital. Please wear your purple Baton Relay or your Surfers Sunrise T-Shirt.
In the evening, from 5 pm, we are all invited to a Sausage Sizzle at the Rotary Kokoda Memorial Wall at Cascade Gardens.

On Saturday 15th May 2021, our District 9640 will hold its Conference at Twin Towns Conference Centre. In view of the COVID situation, the format is a one day event. This brings the cost down to just $60.00 per head ($20 for Rotaractors and $10 for Interactors) which includes morning tea break and Lunch. Registrations close on 1st May, or when the maximum of 500 seats have been sold out.
Among the hugely interesting guest speakers is Dr Michael Pyne (picture right), the Chief Veterinarian of the Currumbin Wildlife Centre. Click here for more information and to book.
In short: we'll have a dedicated website for the Wheelchair Trust, the Project Shed, the volunteers and all the stuff we do.
We are looking for photos relating to our Wheelchairs, various buildings we put up over the years etc etc. If you have any, please upload them directly to a shared Google Drive KJ has set up for this: Click here - it's dead easy - simply drag the photos from your folder into the 'Drop files here' field.
Duty Roster - note: subject to change - please check every week. Note: Fellowship duty also is expected to be at the Project Shed on the Saturday following the meeting
Just a reminder: if you work at our Project Shed, you must wear enclosed shoes. Steel capped thongs don't qualify! ☺
Andy Bell's post of the week:
I hate it when people say "Act like an Adult". Have you seen adults lately? That's horrible advice!
The act of speaking is not a conquest, but a surrender. When we open our mouths, we are sharing with the world - and the world inevitably interprets, indeed sometimes shifts and distorts our original meaning.Frank Luntz, 'Words that Work'
I do a lot of charity work. That is, if volunteering my opinion counts.
