Past President Charles Thomasson presented presidential awarded Paul Harris Fellows to K J Jewson, Matt Harrison and Neil Thurlow. He also presented donation Paul Harris Fellows to Ray Higgs, Gerald East and Peter Morgan.
 
President’s Report
President Paul Seymour:
  • reported to the meeting that Covid-19 and its related restrictions continued to impact upon Club activities;
  • asked members to reflect upon the 20th anniversary of 9/11 and how fortunate we are to live in Australia;
  • advised:
    • the next formal meeting will be held at the Project Shed and it is hoped that the District Governor will be able to personally attend;
    • the Italian Long Lunch is to be held on 7 October;
    • the Lutzy Award breakfast and presentation will on 27 October;
    • the Golf Day will be held on 25 October;
    • there is an upcoming Bunnings Sausage Sizzle;
    • members to consider putting forward suggestions for a local charity the Club can provide ongoing support to over the next 2 – 3 years.
Director’s Reports
Darrell Brown reported that:
  • NFSF applications are still open. Candidates need to be Year 11 students with strong academics in the sciences. The cost is $1,900.00 which is 50% subsidised by Rotary;
  • RYLA applications are still open. Candidates need to be 19 – 29 years old. The cost is $650.00, $550.00 of which is subsidised by Surfers Sunrise;
  • RYTS applications are still open. Candidates need to be 17 – 18 years old. The cost is $650.00, which is subsidised by Surfers Sunrise;
  • applications for the above can be submitted on-line.
Charles Thomasson:
  • reported the Golf Day will be held on 25 October, with numbers this year capped to 72 players. More details to be provided in the coming weeks;
  • encouraged members to bring a guest to the meeting on 13 October to hear former Brisbane Lions and premiership winning player Simon Black speak.
Angus Miller confirmed a Bunnings Sausage Sizzle had been allocated to the Club for Sunday, 10 October commencing at 9.00am. Only three shifts would be required. Further details to follow.
Ian Mayberry advised he may be able to secure for the Project Shed from the QPS two containers of bicycles.
Larry Murray advised that:
  • Project Shed volunteers had been encouraged to attend the formal breakfast at the Shed on 29 September and he hoped the District Governor could personally attend to see first hand the good work being done there;
  • the internal layout of the Pentecost hospital building was being reviewed / amended. He hoped this wouldn’t have implications for the X-Ray machine which had already been acquired.
Neil Thurlow reported that a representative from the supplier that donates the cartons in which the wheelchairs are packed for overseas transportation will also be attending the Project Shed breakfast meeting on 29 September. An award presentation in appreciation for their generosity has been organised.
K J Jewson reported that website advertising was in the process of being SEO’d.
