Nuclear Engineering

Mr Guenael Le Cann holds a bachelor in Physics complemented by a Nuclear Engineering degree. His Career in the Nuclear Sector has encompassed over 35 years working for the Nuclear Industry and Nuclear Regulatory Bodies. His last position - held for 16 years - was Manager of the Design and Safety Analyses assessment team within the Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation in United Arab Emirates (UAE). In this regulatory position, he has overseen the implementation of the UAE Nuclear Energy Program through the construction and first years of operation of four nuclear reactors.

During the last recent years, there have been debates in Australia on whether or not Australia should engage on a nuclear power program to assist in meeting its obligation under the Paris Agreement on climate change. Now he is retired from the nuclear sector, Guenael believes that regardless of whatever one’s opinion may be on embarking on a Nuclear Energy journey, the lessons learned from UAE on a similar journey is relevant to other newcomer countries to help them understand the actual implications and challenges of their decision.
