ORRCA

When I turned 60, despite my family’s opinions and lovely intentions to host a party, I chose to decline the celebrations and partake in 60 adventure activities in 60 days instead.

I was looking for unusual adventures. Not the commercial, adrenaline rushing or high profile adventures that are displayed on YouTube and Facebook, but some that would allow me to step out of my comfort zone and routine, discover something new, realize what activities are already available in our community that I was not aware of, to look for ways I could become more involved in our community and opportunities to contribute.

I had great fun and loved the various 60 days adventure activities. But the ones that I have continued with for a number of years since then have been the ones where I have an opportunity to have a meaningful impact on the environment within our Gold Coast community in which we live day to day, our waterways, our ocean, and the marine life within.Through this adventure I discovered ORRCA, attended a training day and have been hooked and volunteering with this organisation since.Organisations like ORRCA welcome citizen scientists and provide an opportunity for you to contribute not only to marine mammal rescue but also to ongoing marine mammal research.
