LAST WEEK'S GUEST SPEAKER

Rosies Friends on the Street is a volunteer-run outreach supporting people experiencing homelessness and housing stress across 15 Queensland locations, including Burleigh. Coordinator Michelle shared how Rosies began at Schoolies in 1987 and has grown into a trusted presence offering “friends on the street” – conversation, connection, and a cuppa, with food as a conduit rather than the main purpose. Relying entirely on community donations (not government funding), Rosies provides snacks, sleeping bags, and essentials, and partners with services like Orange Sky for showers and laundry. At Burleigh, 76 volunteers work in rostered teams on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, offering consistency, companionship, and dignity to those in need.

mi meditation

Matt Ireland – Founder, mi meditation

Matt Ireland is the founder of mi meditation, a Gold Coast-based business with a mission to make meditation as normal as going to the gym. After many years working in the technology industry, including fast-paced startup environments where pressure and constant change were part of everyday life, Matt discovered that meditation became one of the most valuable habits he developed for staying calm, focused and resilient.

Inspired by the difference it made in his own life, Matt founded mi meditation to help others build a simple, sustainable meditation practice. He now runs community meditation classes at North Burleigh Surf Club and is building an online meditation community that combines guided meditations, live support and accountability to help people stay consistent.

Since launching, hundreds of people have attended mi meditation classes, experiencing firsthand how just 15 minutes of meditation can help reduce stress, improve focus and create a greater sense of calm. Matt's long-term vision is to make practical meditation accessible to individuals, workplaces and communities across Australia.
