Hi everyone
Thank you once again to all of you working so hard behind the scenes — your dedication is what keeps this club strong and impactful. Here’s a snapshot of what’s been happening and what’s ahead:
Supporting Local Families in Crisis
At the request of the Chaplain at Caningeraba State School, we’ve approved a $400 donation to support an 8-year-old boy who has been removed from his parents' care due to domestic violence. The funds will cover basketball membership, uniform, and 12 months of fees, paid directly to the club. Funds have been taken from Duck Race.
This is the first initiative to be supported under our newly discussed Emergency Community Response Fund, which will help us assist vulnerable individuals and families in our community. We’ll be putting together some simple criteria around the fund to ensure we can respond quickly and responsibly where help is needed most.
Youth Program Sponsorship – RYTS & Exchange
We’re proud to support Yash to attend RYTS, with the club covering 90% of the cost ($720). The nominator will contribute the remaining 10% to demonstrate commitment. Yash will also return to share their experience with the club.
We’ve also approved support for our Rotary Youth Exchange student, Lucia, who joins us from Argentina. The club will contribute $1,500, which includes a monthly allowance, breakfast at meetings, and a Friday night host roster. Thank you to everyone who will help welcome Lucia into our club family.
Outreach Kits for 54 Reasons
Vicki is leading the revival of the Outreach Kits project originally initiated by Terri. These kits will go to families in need through 54 Reasons — a fantastic continuation of a meaningful community initiative.
Bunnings BBQs – Thursdays Now Available
We’ve been offered the chance to run Thursday BBQs at Bunnings. These lower-volume days only require a small team and can bring in around $1,000 per BBQ. Great income with less pressure — please keep an eye out for the roster and sign up if you can!
Funding Request Process Introduced
To ensure smooth decision-making, we’ve introduced a process to give the board sufficient time to review funding requests. This will help ensure transparency, fair consideration, and timely support where it’s needed.
Duck Race Momentum – Let’s Go!
We’re thrilled to have the support of some generous local sponsors for this year’s Duck Race.
Confirmed sponsorships include:
-
Chamber of Commerce – $1,500
-
City of Gold Coast – $10,000 (with $5,000 allocated to marketing)
-
Currumbin RSL – $1,000 + marketing support
-
PRD Real Estate – $2,000
Huge shoutout to the entire Duck Race team for securing this support — amazing work! Now it’s time to get behind duck sales and make this our best one yet.
Thanks again to all of you for your energy, passion, and service. Whether it’s BBQ tongs in hand, assembling kits, or mentoring youth — you’re making a difference.
