Please check the roster for the next few weeks and advise John Campbell and David Ungar if you will be away that week. Absence forms will be at the attendance desk.
Last week's guest speaker was our very own President, Vicki Kersey, giving a Member Behind the Badge presentation. Vicki shared her journey from Moonee Ponds in Victoria (where she was born) to her family's relocation to Burleigh (where she grew up, surf lifesaving as a Nipper and working her first job as a checkout operator at West Burleigh). Vicki spoke of attending two schools close to our hearts - Burleigh Primary and Miami High! She also spoke candidly about her move to Hobart, the birth of her daughter Laura, and leaving a financially and emotionally abusive relationship to raise Laura as a single mum. Vicki outlined her many small business ventures, from children’s tours and singles events to the pool trade, proofreading, and REaD Café. She later completed a Master’s in TESOL, moved into cosmetic renovations, and travelled to all seven continents. Her volunteering spans flood relief, the 2018 Commonwealth Games, Friends with Dignity, and now Rotary Burleigh Heads.

Meeting Information - Last Week
International Toast
An international toast was made by Ron to the Rotary Club of Thibodaux, Louisiana, highlighting its strong manufacturing base, 65 members, and community projects including support for firemen’s fairs, park upgrades, city clean-up, and school supplies for students. We have already heard back from President of that Club - Donnie Olivier - who expressed excitment as hearing from us in that way.
President’s Updates
President Vicki reported that Interact has $3,000 to donate to an international charity and invited suggestions. She also noted early bird registration for the Barcelona Rotary Convention (17–21 September) and promoted an art union fundraiser run by Toowoomba Rotary.
Community Projects & Fundraising
Duck race ticket sales are now live, supporting 15 community groups with strong sponsorship and prizes secured. Plans for a Peace Pole in Rotary Park are progressing pending council approval. Members are collecting crutches and 600 pairs of girls’ shorts for overseas distribution, along with preparations for upcoming club barbecues.

I’m the Regional Manager for Cancer Council Queensland in Brisbane and also look after Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast regions.
I’ve been with Cancer Council Queensland for a number of years, and my role is really focused on supporting the day-to-day operation of our services and, most importantly, making sure we provide the best possible support to people affected by cancer.
Cancer Council Queensland is much more than cancer research. We provide a range of practical support services for people living with cancer, their families and carers. This includes accommodation, transport, wigs and headwear, supportive care, information and emotional support.
