Rotary Meeting August 19 2013

ImageOur dishonourable Sarge for the day was Glen LaBuc, who fined everyone who was not wearing their pin, and men who were not wearing socks.  He did not fine women who WERE wearing socks...

Visitors to Rotary:  Brian Grice from Red Deer East, Victoria Dubonnet our new inbound student from Belgium, Braydon (our recently returned student who stayed in Norway) and Kirk Bellich.

Happy-Sad Bucks:  Jim Foster had happy bucks to inform the club that the City of Red Deer has not done away with the Rotary Park sign in favour of Waskasoo.  Waskasoo is the overall name, and Mayor Morris Flewwelling has assured Jim the current sign situation will be remedied.  Ken Johnstone had happy bucks for one month of retirement, plus a facebook picture he says is not his boat, despite being named "No Agenda".  Cal Dallas had happy bucks for a two week get-away that included San Francisco and Phoenix.  There was also a reminder that 50-50 starts up soon, and more captains and trainers are needed.

Our Sarge then engaged the club in a game of Canadian trivia, which we did surprising well at despite our disbelief that hockey has joined lacrosse as our national sport.

Image50-50: Hillary Boisjolie won the 50-50 but was unsuccessful drawing the joker.

Phil Maczuga introduced our new inbound student Victoria.  She is 17 years old and will be attending Hunting Hills Highschool. Welcome Victoria!

Our speaker was Brayden Bellich who updated the club on his year in Norway.

Our President Darcy Mykytyshyn passed on the info about the Airdrie Rotary Golf Tournament coming up September 14th, see Darcy for info.  There is also word the 2019 Rotary Conference will be held in Africa.

Next Meeting:  August 26th 2013 North Hill Inn. Guest Speaker: Graham Hicks from the Edmonton Sun will be speaking about the Fort Mcmurray oilsands.
