Guest Speaker:  Jim Woods, Mayor Red Deer County

Jim has been the mayor for 6 terms with Red Deer County.  He shared the highlights of the County achievements and initiatives as they work to diversify within a growing local economy.  These included the Red Deer Fiber Optic Internet Network project, airport solar farm, and the runway expansion at the airport.

Jim shared the success of the Junction 42 rest stop.  Fun Fact:  202,000 visits in 2022.  A vehicle stopped every 2 min 40 sec.  The rest stop is expanding and is often at capacity.

The strong connections that Red Deer County has with neighboring municipalities and levels of government was applauded.

Bob M thanked Jim and the County of Red Deer for their continuing support of the Slack Slough Wetlands Legacy Project.

The Rotarian of the Month displays outstanding achievement in club service and demonstrate high ethics in both their personal and professional life.  They are committed to the 4 Way test and service above self. They have made significant contributions to community and international projects and events.

Member Bios and Mug Shots

As part of our Centennial Celebration, the committee intends to honour different different Rotarians and bios would be very helpful. As a newer Rotarian and still learning names and faces, the photo portion of member profiles in Club Runner is useful.

The executive is asking the members of the club to add their bio and photo to their member profile in Club Runner.   If you would like assistance, please reach out the executive (or the Flashettes) for assistance.

100 Anniversary Celebrations

Don O'Dell reminded members to extend the invitation to friends, family, and contacts to attend the 100 Anniversary Gala on May 4.

Opportunities to sponsor and support the event are available.  Contact Don for details.  It is going to be the event of the year- don’t miss it!!!
