Celebrating the Rotary Year.
President Phil H thanked the board and all members for their support over the past year. Our achievements are the result of the club working together to meet our goals of serving the community.
Special thanks was extended to outgoing Board members. Bruce Buruma and Dean Williams have served on the board for many years and shared their time, knowledge and expertise freely. Cheryl Gascoyne has accepted a position in Valleyview and is wished great success in her new endeavour.
President Citations were awarded to Dean Williams, Aliesha Shuparsky, Chris Warren, and Garth Olsen. (Additional pictures to follow)
Dean Williams has been 'a memory bank of knowledge' and expertise. He has been an integral part of many activities and initiatives and is relied on for his unbiased opinions and knowledge.
Chris Warren is known for his quiet support of the club and his extensive work with the Career Opportunity Scholarships, making connections between schools and Red Deer Polytechnic. He has been key as we move forward with our partnership with the Pidherney Centre.
Garth Olsen is always willing to lend a hand and share knowledge. He is thoughtful and considerate as he lends his support in whatever wherever the club needs.
Aliesha Shuparksy is to be commended with her work leading the Fellowship committee. Under her guidance, members have been provided with many opportunities to gather in fellowship throughout the year.
Rotarian of the Year
Dick M presented this award to Eric Madsen in honor of his contributions this year. He has spearheaded the Blood Donation campaign, and been an integral part of ensuring that the initial stage of the Rotary Wetlands Project was achieved. Eric was a key player in navigating the obstacles that were faced with the Wetlands and together, with his company Prime Boiler, created and installed the sign at Slack Slough. Eric has also generously brought his 'World's Biggest BBQ" truck to Rotary events. Eric is a wonderful example of Service Above Self in all that he does. (picture to follow)
New Rotarian of the Year
Leigh Sands was recognized for her contributions as part of the Square, Black Tie Bingo and Fellowship committees along with her work in ensuring that the Flash is shared with members weekly. She also readily volunteers for events such as the Seniors Christmas concert and is willing to lend a hand wherever needed. Her technology expertise is appreciated as she leads the designing of marketing materials for Black Tie. Leigh greets all with a smile and ensures that new members are made welcome. She is an invaluable asset to the club and well deserving of this honor.

Judith and Phil having some fun awarding the winner of the Whining and Snivelling Award. Many esteemed members of the club have received this award and it is one of the most anticipated announcements! Without the winners of this award many club activities would not happen!

Amanda O is excited for her term as President. She would like to continue to focus on growing the club and has a special interest on promoting youth involvement. We are excited for the upcoming year under your leadership.
