Career Opportunity Awards

We honored the 10 recipients of the $5 000 award.  Awards are given to students who have demonstrated financial need, strong commitment to service, and have achieved the required academic marks.
Since 1997 437 students have been awarded a total of $ 737 000 to help them advance their academic careers.  This year, the Rotary Club of Red Deer  contributed $250 000 to the fund, which has been invested with the Community Foundation of Central Alberta.
Erin Peden, executive director of the Community Foundation of Red Deer, encouraged the recipients to never stop learning.  She reminded all that they are part of a legacy, helping to lift others that follow as they strive toward becoming the leaders of the future.  Erin extended thanks to the parents, school councilors, principals, school board representatives who have helped to support their learning and development over the years.

Farewell to Koldo

We gathered to wish Koldo, our exchange student, goodbye.  He heads back to Spain at the end of the month with mixed feelings. Koldo is eager to see his family and friends again but is reluctant to leave those that made his year here wonderful. Thanks were extended to Darcy Mykytyshyn, Corinna Bruin Tewson  and Rob Stryker along with their families for making him feel so welcome.  We ensured that Koldo will have some Canadian swag to bring home.  He will be missed and we wish him good luck in all that he does.
