Board Update

May 2025

The Flash, Board Edition

Rotary Colleagues, welcome to your monthly board update.

The board met on May 20, 2025 and welcomed the incoming Board of Directors as part of our year end transition strategy.

Decisions:

  • The Community Grants Committee presented their Spring Grant recommendations for board review.  The board adopted them, and once the required member review period expires, they will be processed, unless concerns are raised to the Commuinty Grants Chair.

Community Grants Review

  • Bethany Care Foundation ($5000.00).  This is for an arts program for the seniors who are residents. The program is run by youth volunteers. The committee believes this is a great opportunity for young and old and to bring the two together
  • Between Friends ($5000.00).  This camp serves youth ages 5-17 that have disabilities.  The committee decided on support of this camp as it is held locally in Red Deer.
  • Red Deer Arts Council ($5000.00).  This is a camp held at the YMCA, however completely separate. It is targeted at youth with developmental, cognitive and physical disabilities. This camp runs two days per week. This camp focuses on a music program.
  • Afro Caribbean Centre ($5000.00).  The funds will go towards the 3rd Annual Festival August 9-10. This event has good attendance, and brings the community together. It also provided excellent signage opportunities
  • Red Deer Symphony ($5000.00).  These funds will go towards assisting them with improving their website and improved ability to accept payments online.

Director Updates

Community Service Applications.  The committee reported they received 11 applications totalling $185,000 in the most recent funding cycle.

Board Policies.  The board previewed a Signing Authorities policy using the Policy Governance framework as a template.  A final version will be brought to the June meeting for approval and serve as a model for successive policies the board will focus on building in the next Rotary year.

Rebel's 50/50 Contract.  AGLC Chair and Incoming President Brett has been meeting with the Rebel's to build a renewal of our 50/50 contract. A final version will be brought to the board for review and consideration.

Committee Carousel.  The board reviewed the upcoming Committee Carousel meeting on June 16, 2025.  Details will be rolled out to the club.

That’s it for us…ONLY 22 days left in the Rotary year!!!
