Monthly Business Meeting
The monthly business meeting provided an opportunity for the Community Service Committee to share information about how charities are selected for support through grants.
Vangi Willington shared that 35 short form applications were submitted to consideration. Further information was requested from a short list of 15 organizations with 9 providing additional information.
From these, 7 were selected for monetary support. The list was submitted to the Board for approval and then brought back today for member input and questions. A summary of the selected organizations goals was also shared to all in the Board Flash a couple weeks ago.
Organizations that will be receiving our support during this grant cycle include: Red Deer Royals, Red Deer Science Fair, Sendero, Red Deer Action Group, Red Deer Festival of the Arts, YMCA Northlands, Central Alberta Women's Shelter. $32 000 was awarded during this grant cycle. Thank you to Vangi and her committee for the work done that helps us to support our community's needs.
Paul Harris Awards

Paul Harris Awards are awarded in recognition to contributions to the Rotary Foundation. Funds are used to support humanitarian, educational, and cultural programs around the world. Donations help improve lives in your community and around the world.
We celebrate the following
Brett Mauthie: Paul Harris inaugural
Judith McIntyre: Paul Harris +2
Gerry Winia, Foundation chair, reminded members that contributing to the Foundation is crucial in order for our club projects to be eligible for grants for local or international projects. Many projects over the years that are sponsored by this club (Water project, library in Africa, Belize literacy, support for local youth projects, etc) have benefited from this support. If we are not contributing as a club to a certain level,we are not eligible for funding. We do not want to jeopardize projects that we are currently supporting. Gerry encourages all members to contribute and become sustaining members. A sustaining member donates $100USD to the foundation annually. This year, that was about $139CND. Gerry will be sharing more information about sustaining membership at a future meeting.
Members are encouraged to continue to contribute to the Foundation, not only during November Foundation Month, but during the year. The Rotary year ends June 30 so members still have time to make their contributions.
