Bob Mills and His Predictions for the Future
Bob shared his predictions for what will be happening in the world in 2073, based on his observations and experiences.
China will have collapsed due to an aging population and a greater awareness of the benefits of "freedom" by the younger members of the population due to an increased access to education and knowledge sources. Communism with be threatened and China may have reached the peak of its world power.
Russia is highly influenced by Putin, who acts like a 17 century Czar. Putin currently has a security force of 50 000 in the Kremlin who are often threatened with their lives if they object or voice a negative opinion. Bob predicts that the ogligarchy will eventually become more powerful as time goes by. Bob remarked that his personal meetings with Putin left him shocked at the admission of brutality used within the government.
Turkey relies of the use of religion and political power to dominate people. Bob warns of the dangers of this practice. He shared that Turkey and Putin need each other for their future survival.
Bob also identified certain crucial concerns that may arise in the future. By the year 2100 it is estimated that the world population will be approximately 10.9 billion, up from 22 billion in 2022. This raises concerns regarding the ability of enough water, food, and energy sources to sustain the number of inhabitants. It will be necessary to have adopted new technology and practices in order to meet the growing population needs. Bob spoke of the increased dependence that the rest of the world has upon China and how China is no longer as dependent upon the rest of the world. Immigration challenges, wars, the threat of someone "pushing the button", and climate change that results in significant higher ocean levels that threaten the land mass of many countries will face leaders. There will be an increase in "climate refugees" as a result of global warning that increase flooding, fires, and drought.
Solutions to emerging issues will require strong leadership and vision to make an impact. The time for talk is over and action must be swiftly taken. Bob predicts that our 1000 year supply of oil and gas will be used not as fuel but as carbon fibres that will replace steel. The reduction in industrial pollution would be significantly reduced. Stories of gigafactories where all materials were recycled and repurposed will become essential. He spoke of following the lead of Denmark, Sweden and Norway as they have created integrated power grids - what one country does not produce is balanced by another countries resources. Bob predicts that our future will involve greater of use of hydrogen, fusion, solar farms, and robotics
The leaders of tomorrow (and those of today!) must exercise decisive leadership and vision, not waiting for a disaster to occur before reacting to issues.
The Rotarians of tomorrow will need to track his predictions and be part of the move toward a world that is preparing for the future!
