Thelma Maris was the Sarge and Brett Mauthe chaired the Annual General Meeting. 

 

Thelma as Sarge levied a fine to Victor Maris of $2/ring of his phone at the last meeting.  Members recall 4 rings being heard.  She also asked for a contribution of $1 from each member who complained about the glorious fall weather we are experiencing.  Those sitting at an all male table were also asked to contribute $1/person and reminded of the benefits of having women at their table.

 

 

We were reminded of the importance of recognizing Truth and Reconciliation Day on Sept 30.

 

As this is the AGM and focus is on how Rotary is spending its money, Brett Mauthe, president, reminded all of the words of Ben Franklin.  "An investment in knowledge pays the best interest,"This statement supports the investments that this club has made this year in the Career Opportunity Fund and Literacy Alive as they continue to make it possible for participants to expand their learning resulting in many  opportunities that will pay dividends for years to come.  

 

Robert Mast led all in the singing of our national anthem.  There were no members present who were willing to admit to having a September birthday. 

 

 

50/50 saw Grant Edmonds hold the ticket but not the lucky card to take home the winnings.

Darcy Mykytyskyn:Recently returned from Winnipeg for a workshop for DG and incoming DG.  He shared a testimonial recognizing Gloria Beck who persistently encouraged him to say, "yes" to Rotary. He reminded all that Rotary is bigger than our community projects and that we must do more than just show up- we need to respond to the opportunities that arise and take upon the challenge by saying "Yes- I can help".  

Anthony Judd: Gleefully reported that he was the Rebel 50/50 top seller at his first game.  It should also be noted that Anthony was a roving seller not at one of the key permanent spots making his accomplishment more noteworthy!

Steve Chow: Apologized for missing his slot for his Membership Spotlight but will have more to add when he returns in March from his adventures.

Angela Gray: Celebrating the running prowness of her son.

Ross Fletcher: Shared the sad news of his grandson Nathan whose cancer has now spread to his kidneys, resulting in a poor prognosis  He was gifted with a family trip from Children's Wish Foundation to  LA where he was able to meet Duane (the Rock) Johnson and visit the LA Lakers facility where he was gifted with swag galore. Our thoughts are with Ross and his family.

Robert Mast: Off on a 3 week adventure to Portugal to do some cycling and then connect with Habitat for Humanity to participate in a house build.       

Lynne Paradis, project lead, announced that the Global Grant for the next project has been approved.  Through a series of matching grants for our club contribution and those of our 3 supporting clubs, $118 000 will be available to support the project over the next 3 years.  This will be money well spent. 

 

Darcy Mykytyshyn, International Committee Chair, Reminded all to check out the September RI Magazine on page 56 to read an article by Holger Knaak, Foundation trustee chair, in which he discusses  the power of Foundation grants by sharing the thoughts of Lynne Paradis, project lead for our club's Literacy Alive project.
