Victor M: Victor was born in Netherlands during WW2. He was in the southern part of the country, which was liberated, coincidentally, on the day he was born. His family immigrated a farm in Southern Alberta in 1949 where his father was employed picking rocks. In 1953 his family moved near Edson, which became “home” for many years. Most of Victor’s education was farming, even at college in Iowa, working on a farm was a major part. In 1956 Victor began farming on his own and was not always successful and had other odd jobs. In 1973 he was a charter member of the natural gas co-op in Edson, which was supposed to celebrate 50 years this year but was evacuated for the fires this spring. For many years Victor was in gas line construction and sewer systems, in partnership with a long-time friend, Victor did the “grunt work” in the trenches. Victor was part of the first wedding to happen in Grand Cache, to his first wife. They were blessed with 3 children. Victor and his first wife separated in 1977 and Victor and Thema were married in 1982. They now have 7 wonderful grandchildren aged 7-23.

Victor and Thema were charter members of the Edson Rotary Club, both very active as president or other roles over the years. Victor’s favourite project over the years was the highways to Mexico. In collaboration with the Grand Prairie clubs, buses, ambulances, and firetrucks were donated/purchased and delivered to Mexico. Victor was part of the convoy of drivers making multiple trips down to Mazatlán.

Victor is an active supporter of fight against Polio. This year he is raising money for Move for Polio and plans to do at least 1000km on his bike. He and Thelma are pledging $2/km and he welcomes any and all support from the club as well.

Victor M was the lucky ticket holder for 50/50 and had no trouble leading us in the 4-way test. Not a winner this week though.
