Welcome to Rotary!
Join fellow members at a Fireside Meeting on Thurs. Sept 19 upstairs in the Pidherney Lounge (it even has a fireplace!). Firesides are a wonderful opportunity to gather together and learn about Rotary in a more casual, relaxed setting while sharing some laughs and refreshments.
Please feel free to invite your friends, family and colleagues. Many people have heard about Rotary yet they don't know what we're all about. This event will be valuable to all Rotarians (especially the ones who haven't been to a fireside yet). There's lots to learn.
We will be providing light snacks and beverages will be available for purchase. Donna Purcell is graciously sponsoring your first drink!
Doors open at 6:30 and the presentation will start promptly at 7pm . There will be time at the end of the presentation for mingling and conversation.
Vocational Speech: Vince Morelli
Vince is a Red Deer boy, through and through. He graduated from LTHS and shared some tales of his exploits, especially riding the trains that used to pass by his neighborhood in Oriole Park. Vince was involved in some way with the oil and gas business for many years including being shortlisted for the Hibernia project. He was very successful in building up a business
and then finding a buyer as he moved on to the next project. Those of us unfamiliar with the oil industry received an education as he described his projects.
Since 2009 Vince has focused on SafeTracks GPS Canada. He began producing ankle bracelets for use within the justice system and is now the industry leader in GPS electronic monitoring technology for tracking offenders, supporting domestic violence victims and helping law enforcement to create safer communities. This application has also been applied to personal emergency locator devices that provide safety and independence to lone workers, seniors living on their own, domestic violence survivors and those suffering from PTSD or Alzheimer's and their families. Vince appeared on Dragon's Den and received support from Brett Wilson to expand its use to victim services.
Vince is married to his childhood sweetheart, Holly, and has 3 sons and 2 grandchildren. He is currently the proud owner of over 84 jars of tomato sauce produced from his own greenhouse.

Ticket sellers are being entered into a draw for prizes. This week's prize was for a $25 gift certificate from Parkland Mall, donated by Annette Eby. The lucky winner is # 95. We will reveal the name of the lucky winner next Monday.
Next week you might be the lucky winner of the Early Bird and be able to choose which table you would like to sit at! Good luck!
The major charity benefiting this year from Black Tie Bingo is the Rotary Career and Opportunity Fund. This fund allows above average high school students in achieving
their career goals where students have limited financial resources.

Rotary Employment Partnership- Gina Belich
Gina shared that Debbie Valyear and Heidi Ravenhill are now members of the Steering Committee. She was also pleased to announce that 2 clients have been placed in positions at Red Deer Polytechnic.
