Last week we hosted a fun filled farewell evening of music, ice cream & socializing in the Gardens @ Parkland Garden Centre to wish Charlotte our lovely Rotary Exchange student all the best on her new journey ahead to Germany 🇩🇪! Her smile says it all.  We treated ourselves to ice cream sundaes with mega toppings.  The beverages from Sawback Brewery were also appreciated.  We had nearly 40 in attendance.  It was great to see some future Rotarians at the event- they were great "scoopers" of ice cream and enjoyed playing a few games of Corn hole in the shade.
A special thanks goes to Gloria and her staff at Parkland Garden Centre who created a lovely setting for the event.  It was absolutely perfect!

Parade Fun

Westerner Days means a parade!  Over 30 enthusiastic volunteers helped assemble, disassemble, transport, and then walk in the parade to celebrate all that is Rotary. It was great to see family and friends join us (especially for those float manouevres) Whoops and hollers and spins drew attention- we definitely were People of Action!!!    Charlotte, our outgoing exchange student rode in Jim M's swanky car and had a blast.  We were joined by Rotary East and Sunrise and there was no doubt that we were proud Rotarians who love a parade!

Get Your Hot Dogs Here!

The Rotary Club of Red Deer, along with assistance from the Rotary East and Sunrise clubs,  gave back to the community with a free BBQ. We had over 40 people who helped with set up, organizing, cooking, cleanup and attracting hungry parade goers.  This is the 2nd year of the BBQ and it is quickly becoming one of the more popular events during Westerner Days.  It was great to see the smiles on the faces of families as they learned of the free event, many remarking that they tried to attend last year but were too late to get the free offerings. Over 800 parade goers and community members stopped by for a hot dog, bag of chips, and a refreshing bottle of water. The shade of Rotary Park was appreciated as was the playground nearby.  Past DG Kurt Kowalchuck and Red Deer Mayor Ken Johnson were just two of the dignitaries that stopped by to be part of the event. What a great way to give back to the community and join together with the diverse population of Red Deer.

We Love to Celebrate!
