A bit of Valentine's Day Fun with a game of Jeopardy.  Despite a slow start to knowing the correct answer the men did display an admirable knowledge regarding Valentine's Day and traditions. Ray was the ultimate winner and went home with the ultimate prize.  He won by a larger amount than announced as judges later determined that he had correctly identified the mother of Cupid and had not been awarded points.  Thanks to all who participated!!

Membership News

We welcomed Scott Robinson and Laura Snape as they shared their vocational talks.

Laura enjoys travelling (the Galapagos, yoga retreat in Costa Rica and cooking in Tuscany) and bringing home interesting souvenirs (her future husband when in Australia). She is the mother of 3 children (nearly grown up now) and works with RBC as a senior investment and wealth advisor.  She shared the challenges and situations that are unique to women when making investment decisions.  Laura's expertise and knowledge will be a valuable asset to the club. Welcome

Scott is currently the CEO of the Red Deer Chamber of Commerce and a reigning soapbox derby champion.  He shared tales of his youth in Red Deer (lived in Sunnybrook) and the journey to Red Deer College to focus on sports administration. Scott has always enjoyed working with the community and was the CEO of the 1999 Canada Winter Games.  He also did create his own  business development and consulting company but found that he missed the interaction and focus on community that he had in previous jobs.  He was pleased to assume the leadership of the Chamber of Commerce and looks forward to becoming a part of the Rotary family. We welcome you Scott.

Community & Project Updates

Wetland Legacy Project

The sign is finally up!!!  Thanks to the partners who have made the Legacy Project a reality.:  The Rotary Club of Red Deer, Red Deer County, the Mills family, Ducks Unlimited, Legacy Land Trust, and the Alberta Government.  Kudos to Prime Boiler and Ident Signage for making the unique sign to honor our 100 Anniversary Project, conserving Slack Slough Wetlands for future generations.  There will be a celebration in the spring- watch for details.

Coldest Night of the Year

Darcy reminds all to donate to or sign up to walk in support of the Mustard Seed and Red Deer Food Bank in the Coldest Night of the Year on Sat Feb 24.  Two great causes are being supported.  We have also been challenged by the other city Rotary Clubs and clubs across Canada to support this community event.  Information can be found at https://cnoy.org/location/reddeer

February 26, 2024 Business Meeting will be the wrap up of our Centennial Year. Please circle the date on your calendar.

We have lots to share as we revisit the accomplishments of the past year, including a series of short videos (seen by very few) that we will share that day, as well as the main video that those who were at Black Tie Bingo would have seen, but is well worth seeing again.

Pictures will also be taken to commemorate this event.
