298 tickets have already been sold. It is expected that sales will increase this week as everyone finalizes their social calendars! We have to advise the Westerner caterer of our numbers on Thursday April 20. If possible, please get your ticket orders in before then. The crack organizing committee will build in room for ongoing ticket sales, but let's try to get those tickets purchased now.

Tickets can be purchased by:

1)filling out the PDF order form and emailing it to rex@rotaryclubofreddeer.ca (you are then sent an invoice to pay by email, with the ability to pay by cheque or online)

2) using the online link here

3) emailing rex@rotaryclubofreddeer.ca to advise you want tickets and then paying at the front table on Monday April 24, 2023

Rob S shared the enticing special menu the Westerner has designed for our plated dinner, including a main course of AAA Alberta Prime Rib.

If you have any dietary restrictions, please include these on your order forms or in the notes when ordering your tickets online.

Event Schedule

Cocktails begin at 5:30, Enjoy perusing the Hall of Service Above Self while connecting with fellow Rotarians before sitting down at the plated dinner. A slideshow highlighting past Rotarians will be shown and followed by tributes.

Call to Tables at 6:30 for the beginning of the evening entertainment, with presentations thanking the major sponsors and dinner.

Rex Murphy will then entertain and provoke conversation and insightful thoughts. It will be an evening to celebrate Rotary- past and present and future.

There are physical tickets available and if you need help ordering your spots etc. please contact Don O. or Dean.

Service Above Self Wall of Honour

The Call to action is for club members is to consider a sponsorship donation for our hundred years of Rotary in recognition of the fine example set by these individuals during their lifetime commitment to the community through Rotary and other community efforts. Mayor Ken Johnston’s list have attracted significant donations in support of Rotary.

It is our goal to have donors /sponsors for each of the names on the Mayor’s list and include them in a profile display at our May 4 event.

Each name has a "champion" who either funded the donation goal (of at least $500 per name) or started the contribution towards the goal. If someone you would like to sponsor is already "championed", please reach out to that champion (or Don O) about adding your name/donation.

The 50/50 pot grew substantially today due to all the Happy/Sad bucks. Unfortunately Harvey M was unable to draw the the right card. Maybe next week we will have a winner!

Daria Z: "Read all about it" bucks as the Advocate insert is complete and will win rave reviews. Congratulations to all involved.

Aleisha S: "He shoots,he scores!" bucks as she celebrates her son's prowess on the ice.

Robert M: "Leaving on a Jet Plane" bucks as he is off to Kenya on May 1 with A Better World to share his dentistry skills. He also will attend the Rotary International Conference in Melbourne.

Ingrid: "My Bags are Packed" bucks as she leaves from the meeting with her suitcases for her yearly visit to Germany. She is looking for coverage for her Game 8 50/50 duties.

Ron M: "Home Sweet Home" bucks as he returns from his winter holidays in Mexico and Palm Desert. He also is celebrating his 40th Wedding anniversary.

Bob L: "Let me tell you a story" bucks as he celebrates the 24 page Advocate insert that has been created due to the efforts of so many club members. He also shared a book about RI that may pique some interest.

Doug H: "Don't Let the Music Stop" sad bucks for the cancellation of the Jazz at the Lake festival in Sylvan Lake.

Rotarian of the Month

We officially kicked off our Rotarian of the Month awards. The award will be given each month to a Rotarian who embodies service and above self in our club.

Our first honouree is Dean Williams, who continues to serve our club on the Board, attends meetings and is always looking for a way to help. Dean continues to help our club meet our fundraising goals, including obtaining additional 50/50 selling units to help more of us get involved in our service and fundraising goal. This is a small piece of the service Dean offers.

Jodi Jamieson, Jodi is being sponsored by Donna Purcell. Jodi works with the Central Alberta Child Advocacy Centre as the Community Development Coordinator.

John Benson, John is being sponsored by Dwayne Holland. John is employed by the Red Deer Regional Health Foundation as the Donor Relations Director.

We also welcome Victor Maris who will be transferring to our club from the Sylvan Lake Club. We are excited to have Victor as a new member of our club and look forward to learning more about him.

Volunteer to be part of RAYEC held in the beautiful Cypress Hills area south of Medicine Hat August 13-19. You will teach middle school students about entrepreneurship and have a wonderful time. Contact Dagmar for more details and information.

Club Health Check

THANK YOU to the 42 members who invested the time in sharing their perspectives around how our club is doing. The results of the survey are strong and positive. We will be bringing you more details on the results at our next business meeting on May 1^st…stay tuned, and thanks again.

2023/24 Budget and Dues

The Board of Directors met on April 18^th to review the 2023/24 budget. Happy to report that the budget was approved and that there will be NO increase to our dues for the 2023/24 Rotary year. Thanks to Treasurer Ron for all his hard work in preparing the budget and to the members of the board for providing details to make this happen. More information will be shared at the May 1^st business meeting.

Rebels 50/50

Congratulations to the Rebels for advancing to round 2 of the playoffs.

Home playoff Game # 4 is Tuesday April 18th @ 7pm. Home Playoff Game # 5 is Wednesday April 19th @ 7pm.

If needed Home Playoff Game # 6 is Sunday April 23rd @ 2pm.

Your captains of each night will reach out to those scheduled. If you're unable to attend please proactively get another Rotarian to cover your shift.

Don't forget to join in fellowship at the lounge at the end of the arena after the game is over and ticket sales are finished!!!!

Looking Sharp!

Garth O reported that 50 people are going to look very sharp in their new Rotary gear. It is expected that you will be able to don your new duds around the 1st week of May.
