All members are encouraged to become involved in the club activities. There are many opportunities to develop leadership skills. The restructuring last year of the structure of the Board and committees leads to more people being able to be involved in a variety of roles.
Phil Hyde shared that the structure does not have a Past President role. The Past President becomes the chair of the Succession Committee, which is composed of past presidents. The sharing of information is also facilitated through the monthly Past/Present/Incoming Presidents meetings.
All standing chairs of committees (we have 30 of them!) are reminded to submit budget requests to Ron Moisey soon.
Kudos were expressed by Jim McPherson to Brett Mauthe for his leadership skills this year and being willing to assume this role at a crucial time in this club's history.
Meeting Update
Brett Mauthe as host welcomed all to the monthly business meeting. Annette Eby led all in the singing of our national anthem. Erin Peden was the Sarge for the day and reminded all that we are having glorious weather after the snow of last week. Today in history marks the end to apartheid in South Africa. Freedom Day in 1994 marked the first democratic elections held in the country. She also called upon John Mellencamp fans to recall their song “Jack and Diane”- only tweak the words to be “Dick and Diane” in honor of today being their 58th wedding anniversary! Congratulations to the two love birds.

Happy/Sad and other Fun Things
Brett Mauthe: Thanks to the support of many club members, Servus's team raised $44 000 in support of Alzheimers. The total raised at the Alzheimer's Pro Am hockey tournament was $1.2 million.
Dean Williams: Had the rare opportunity to play golf on Wednesday and then snowmobile on Saturday- all within ½ hr from Buffalo Lake. What a weather switch in a short time!!
Scott Robinson: Expressing gratitude as he returns after open heart surgery on March 16. He is so happy to be back and to have received such great care. (Members are also so glad for his return and gave him a standing round of applause)
Phil Pattison: Loved that the Red Deer U18 AAA women's hockey team claimed gold at the recent national hockey championship
Duane Evans: Happy to be bac after travelling to Europe and the UK with wife Cathie to connect with their niece who is teaching there. Paris was also great. Disappointed that 3 flights in the last month have been either cancelled or delayed.
Dick McDonnell: Back from 3 weeks in Europe with Diane, including a 13 day cruise from Budapest to Amsterdam. He loved Amsterdam but accidently(?) found himself in a shop specializing in condoms when he was looking for info re condos (hmmmm!!!) Thanks to Jerry Pasman's advice he also enjoyed the Auto Museum in the Hague
Thelma Maris on behalf of Harold Barnes: While waiting for a ride with the Handi- Bus a van pulled up and out to Harold's surprise and delight, outwalked a miniature horse named Nugget. The West Park Lodge thoroughly enjoyed the visit from this very friendly horse who apparently has a bit of a naughty streak when not visiting. Ask Harold to share his pictures with Nugget.
Jerry Pasman: Disappointed that the car event did not happen this weekend but took solace in the achievement of Parker Thompson (local race car driver) who won his first FIA World Endurance Championship event in Italy.
Darcy Mykyshytn: Enjoyed the sun and the family vacation in Maui last week. Was amazed at the landscape changes from the lush vegetation at sea level to the barren wasteland at the top of Mt Haleakala at 10 000 feet. The view at the top was stupendous and worth the drive up.
Robert Lampard: Thanked Phil Pattison for purchasing his book last week- it was the highest amount ever paid for one of his books!
Community & Project Updates
District Conference 2026
Darcy Mykytyshyn as incoming District Governor extended his thanks to those who are part of the many volunteers for this weekend's District Conference being held here at the Pidherney Centre. The over 400 attendees will be part of a weekend of information, inspiration and fellowship with others.
Judith McIntyre shared that tickets to the Friday night Dueling Pianos event are open to the public and still available for purchase.

Rotary Friendship Exchange
Brett Mauthe shared a communication from Red Deer Sunrise who is pursuing a Friendship Exchange with New Zealand in 2027. They would come here in July 2027 and we would travel there in March 2027. A club lead is sought from our club. Brett will share more info via email and the contact information for the lead from the Sunrise club.
Rotary Blood Donor Challenge
Join the Rotary Clubs of Red Deer for this interclub event. It is a great social event and wonderful way to connect with others. You DO NOT have to have donated blood to attend within the last month to attend but if you have- you get a free treat!!!
