Four mayoral candidates shared key points from their platforms and participated in a Q and A session.  

Victor Doerksen, former MLA and currently city councillor, shared his vision for creating a council that is transparent in it actions.  He stressed the need for a sound financial foundation and creation of a balanced budget.  Victor discussed the need for rebuilding reserves and being resilient .

Cindy Jeffries, current city councillor, discussed collaboration and being a advocate for the community needs by listening and posing clarifying questions.  Her goals are to strengthen trust among members, address the housing for the unhoused needs with a permanent shelter and stopping band-aid measures in an attempt to solve the issues. Cindy supports ensuring safe staffing for emergency services.  She celebrates the diversity of the Red Deer population and wants to continue to build positive relationships with stakeholders.

Lawrence Lee, current city councillor, shared details of his background working in corporate organizations and leading change initiatives.  He wants to listen to stakeholders in order to determine how their needs can be met. Lawrence would like to change the framework in which services are delivered and invest in city infrastructure. 

Gareth Scott wants to be part of a city that is financially sound and moving forward. He has worked his way up through the ranks in companies and knows that that change is hard work  His key strategy will be talking and listening to others, being honest with what he knows and does not know and then seeking solutions.  Gareth is keen to solve the issues with fire services.  

  

Candidates also participate in a brief Q and A session in which they were quizzed about their approach to continued economic development.  Many members remained after the meeting to further discover the platforms of the candidates.
