Minutes of previous meeting was approved and quorum was reached at the meeting. Ron Moisey led us through through the financial statements and provided updates and explanations. The review committee also shared that the financial affairs of the club are in good order with well documented processes in place.
Highlights included:
11% increase in balance over the previous year.
Donations to the Calgary Foundation now have a separate line. This allows charitable donation receipts to be written.
The recently created Reserve Account contains interest earned from fundraising. It is used to supplement club expenses. No fundraising dollars are used for operational expenses. Our yearly dues are not enough to cover our fixed expenses, thus the creation of this fund.
The Career and Opportunity Fund, administered through the Red Deer Community Foundation is used for scholarships.
Ticket sales (new line) refers to Social events run by the club. The goal is to break even on all events. A small profit was made this year.
Black Tie Bingo 2023 was the biggest yet, realizing a profit of over $100, 000.
Over $140 000 invested in the community, local and international. This included local community grants, Global Grant (Belize), Seniors Christmas Concert, Youth Exchange, Youth activities ( RAYEC,etc), Legacy Fund (Wetlands).
Over $90 000 was raised at 50/50 (Rebels and CFR) at the Westerner. We will be looking for a replacement for the CFR as it is no longer held in Red Deer.

Adele: Reminded all of the Cycling Without Age event taking place Wednesday, Sept 25 at the Pidherney Centre from 6:30-8 p.m.
Jerry P: Shared that his mother is not doing well and is still in hospital in Sundre. His brother has arrived from Australia. Is off to Fairbanks, Alaska and South Carolina for work and to attend a BMW Convention.
Patricia: Reminded all to read the recent Rotary magazine and the article highlighting the upcoming RI conference in June in Calgary

Rotarian of the Month
Ross Fletcher is a most deserving recipient of this award. He is a second generation Rotarian, his father being part of the club for over 20 years. Ross joined the club 30 years ago and currently has the distinction of being the 2nd eldest statesman of the group. He has assumed many roles in the club over the years- his time as Sargant at Arms was apparently very colorful as Ross is known for his quick retorts to comments. Ross quietly supports club projects and his assistance with producing print materials is greatly appreciated. While quiet and unassuming, Ross demonstrates the qualities of the 4 Way test in all his interactions with others. He is well known for his support of community projects over the years, receiving the Lifetime Sports Achievement Award in 1987 for his contributions to sport in Red Deer. Ross, we honor you today and thank you for your service over the years.

Black Tie Bingo
The countdown is on and tickets are being sold far and wide. Please invite your friends, business colleagues and others to attend the fund raising event of the year. Last year we were able to raise over $100 000 for community projects, locally and internationally. Please click on the link here to order your tickets here. Our charity of choice this year is the Rotary Career and Opportunity Fund which helps high school students that would not be able to further their education at Alberta institutions due to financial difficulties. These scholarships make their dreams possible- the impact considerable.
Community Service and Collaboration Week
Thanks to all those who came out and supported local organizations during the week. A couple of the events needed to be postponed but we will be there on the new dates. What a great way to connect with others who also share our dedication to service within our community. We were truly Rotary In Action!
Bowling with Koldo
An energetic group gathered at The Gutter to enjoy bowling, pizza, and great fun. We welcomed Koldo to 5 pin bowling and hope to do this activity again.
