President Brett Mauthe chaired the business meeting with the witty Darcy Mykytyshyn assuming the role as Sarge.

 

Kudos were extended by Brett to all that were involved in the Christmas Party at Parkland Nursery and at the recent Seniors Concert at RDP. 

 

Members were pleased to hear that more time for fellowship will be provided at business meetings in the future. 

 

The search is on for the missing and damaged presidential mallet.  Not sure if a reward is being offered but, as he is always prepared for all contingencies, Darcy was able to provide a substitute mallet that he "just happened to find in his car".  

 

Diane McDonnell lost her purse but before Holly Glassford, our Rotary  RCMP member, could launch an investigation and search the missing item was located.  Reward was contributed to the 50 50 pot.

Darcy Mykytyshyn: Spent part of his son's inheritance by purchasing new ski equipment for Sam.

Tony Judd: Sad that he had to miss the Christmas party but happy that 100 Men Who Care had over 40 in attendance and chose Central Alberta Search and Rescue to support. Sad because he also missed volunteering at the Seniors Concert but happy that his wife won an award for her financial planning expertise.

Leann Scarlett: Was overjoyed to be back at meetings.  Recommended a quick trip to Iceland for a weekend when waiting medical treatment.   Thanked all for the recent support. 

Phil Hyde: Was recently appointed to the new policing commission and has assumed the role of chairman.  Looking forward to the birth of a new grandson in May.

Orlyn Kostenuk: Shared samples of his homegrown honey with each table and is willing to bring more honey for purchase as it a quality honey!  Enjoyed the ABBA candlelight concert on Friday and now digging out his 8 tracks!

Jerry Pasman: Mourned the end of Formula 1 season and that his favorite was not successful in his quest for top honors. 

Adele Poratto: Thanks to all the helpers at the Seniors Concert.   Will be having her final decor business pop up on Dec 18 where all items will be $2 (location: 5300 Ross St)

Dan Murdock for Terry Balgobin: Excited that his Beer for Belize private label beer has arrived (Shameless plug by writer: Buy a package and boast that you have one of a limited label!)

Dawna Allard: Thanks to all who manned the kettles and shook the bells the last few weekends.  Your service was appreciated.   Glad that son-in-law has a new job and that family will be together at Christmas.

Holly Glassford: Was able to enjoy lunch as no investigation needed as result of missing items being located. (Darcy has pointed out that our club has a good compliment of members in the legal field present today so, if needed, a trial could have been held!) 

Judith McIntyre: Overjoyed at the volunteer spirit of the club at the Seniors Concert.  Close to 25 club members and 8 members of Youth HQ ensured that all attendees had a very special evening. 

 

 

 

The Red Deer Polytechnic Arts Centre was packed as just short of 500 community members enjoyed the 23rd Annual Rotary Christmas Seniors Concert. Thanks to Prairie Bus Lines who provided transportation to over 170 seniors from various facilities in the community. It was great to see so many Rotarians and  friends, along with volunteers from Youth HQ,  helping with ushering and ensuring that that all in attendance had a great evening. The musical entertainment was wonderful- violins played by talented youth, a lively jazz band  and a community band, exquisite piano selections, powerful vocal selections, and energetic Irish dancers- an evening that put a smile on everyone's face.   

 

Over 50 members and guests gathered at Parkland Garden Centre for the yearly event.  As usual, Gloria Beck and her staff had it decorated for the festive season.  A great selection of  appetizers was enjoyed by all- thanks to Dave Murphy and his catering.  Morgan McKee ensured we were in the mood for celebrating as he entertained us with seasonal favorites. We enjoyed the caroling led by Ken Johnston and Caroline Panteluk.  An uninvited and somewhat disgruntled guest provided some excitement and we were glad that he chose to be on his best behavior.  It was a wonderful evening for fellowship and starting out the festive season. 

 

 

A great response from club members as we supported the Salvation Army at Christmas.  Members brought cheer to shoppers at both Canadian Tire locations as they rang the bells and extended holiday greetings to all. Thanks Dawna Allard for arranging this annual service project.
