Cheryl G led a presentation on some  of the features in Club Runner- the ability to indicate whether you will be joining the weekly meeting. and updating your personal profile.

My Profile

Once in Club Runner you can select "My Profile" and update your information
Photo:
Add an updated photo. This will help all members in becoming better acquainted with members.  We also get "better with time" so show off your new look! Amanda O and Cheryl G will assist by taking an updated picture at one of the meetings for those who need support.
Phone number or email:
The use of your primary phone number or email will ensure that we don't lose contact as members change jobs or email addresses.  This will also make sure that your work address does not get filled with Rotary emails.
Privacy settings
Ensure these set so you can get the club, district, and zone emails that are essential.  Clicking on the club email permission is crucial for learning about club business, activities, and socials.

Registering for Lunch or Socials

Members receive a weekly invitation from Amanda O to register for the meeting.  Your response ensures that we have the correct amount of food for you and your guest.  Please respond by Friday about your attendance by following the cues in the email.  You will receive an email confirming your successful registration.  If you have any difficulties, please connect with Amanda O or Cheryl to walk you through the process.

Weekly Meeting Update

Phil H chaired the meeting with Patricia acting as Sargant.  All were reminded of the importance of voting in the by election today (Red Deer's first ever!) and exercising the privilege we have to do so which is not always available to all.   Patricia also spoke of the importance to the community of volunteering and the impact it makes.

Phil extended thanks to Darcy for the way in which Jack Donald was honored at the recent celebration and the role that he played to highlight Jack's Rotary support.

Guests
Dave Jones: guest of Rob S
Cliff Soper: guest of Robert M.

Gloria Beck drew the right color card for the 50/50 draw but not the right design!  That Joker is rather elusive.

Happy/Sad and other Fun Things

Phil H: Recently visited Vancouver on the occasion of his grandson's 2nd birthday.

Leann: Thanks to Darcy for lending the chain saw and weed whacker for a weekend of fun.
Rob Bosnick: Happy Earth Day! How great that the environment is part of Rotary's focus areas.
Rob S: Experienced issue with a tree that resulted in a corneal injury.  Wait time at emergency was 4 hours
Robert M: Woodys RV Marathon is only a few weeks away (May long) and the training group ran 34 K on Sunday.  Robert was very pleased with his progress and rate of travel.
Dagmar: On the mend with a back injury.  Thanks to all who have volunteered and are thinking of volunteering to help out at the June 1 Rotary Branches Out event at McKenzie Trails.  Dagmar is also excited that green shoots are appearing in her garden- Spring is here!
Robert L: Kudos to those involved in the recent celebration of Jack Donald's life- the tribute was wonderful.  We were also reminded of the key role of Rotary in earlier years in the building of the original pool, and the now Memorial Centre.

Membership News

Leann announced that Cliff Soper is our newest member.  We look forward to his welcome into the club and vocational talk in the near future.

Community & Project Updates

Time Capsule- Robert Lampard

Support is sought for creating a 50 year time capsule for the club.  The original one was placed in 2000 by the Polio Plus statue (at the Rec Centre) but during renovations was inadvertently tossed.  Robert hopes to duplicate the original items and we can add more to commemorate our 100years.   Members in attendance were supportive of this initiative. Suggestion was made to "bury' it above ground so it can't be lost in ground renovations, etc.

District Conference- Drumheller May 4,5

Please contact Aliesha if you are attending, even for 1 day, so we can connect re social activities and other functions. We are going to have a large number attending this year!

We are putting a display in the House of Friendship that focuses on our 100 Years, the Wetland Project, International Service, and community projects.   If you have photos, items, etc that you would like to have included please contact Cheryl G.

As part of the conference there will be recognition in a slide show of Rotarians who have passed during the last year.  Please send names/obits to Cheryl G for inclusion.
They are also seeking news of potential new Rotarians - your children, grandchildren, etc. If you have had a new addition to your family during 2023/24 then please send Cheryl G. a photo, name of child, and your connection to you.  They will also be recognized in the slide show.  We need to submit this information by April 29.

YMCA Cheque Presentation - Vangi Willington

Thanks to those who attended the North YMCA cheque presentation.  This is a great facility that is doing so much to support the youth in the community.
The facility has been in operation since 2019. They have approx 30 staff members.
The facility provides support to youth, primarily in the 8-18 age range.  The centre has a gymnasium, a games room, a dining hall, a kitchen, a fitness room, and a play centre for younger children.
One of the programs our sponsorship supported was the Free Food Friday program. They provide supper to approx 70 youth each Friday. Each week 3 youth are selected to help make the meal. This provides them valuable skills and gets them involved.
In addition to the Free Food Fridays all the youth that attend the facility do so for free. This has been made possible by community support and donations.
There are so many other wonderful things the staff and this facility provide to the youth of our community it is hard to list them all.
