Meeting Notes - October 28, 2013

President Darcy Mykytyshyn informed the Club of events that happened on this date in history.  Included were the discovery of Cuba by Columbus, the founding of Harvard University, the opening of Macy's Department Store in NYC,  the Dow Jones plummeted, the Cuban Missile Crisis ended, John and Yoko recorded a Christmas Song, and then.....something about the Bombers.  Darcy also acknowledged guest Monty Audenart.

Sad/Happy bucks included Dick McDonell with happy bucks for the Rotary charter night for Chestermere. Gail Surkan had happy dollars for a trip to Texas.  Marty Skinner had happy bucks for the Citizen of the Year's success this year and presented a check for over $35,000.  He also was the winner of the jet flight on auction at the Black Tie Bingo.  Marty also went on a great date.  

Ken Johnston had $71.34  (a penny for each vote he received in last Monday's election).  Ken said "It's a great day to be a City Councillor!)  Dan Neilson had happy bucks to report a great Black Tie Bingo.   Hillary Boisjolie had happy bucks to announce she got married and sad bucks to say she is leaving for Victoria.  Diane McDonell had happy bucks for the Black Tie Bingo and the Rotary a capella choir.  Gloria Beck had happy bucks for the arrival of long lost Swedish cousins.

50-50: Victoria had the lucky ticket but didn't win.

Sarge read  a short essay by a Grade Six student about the bible....unlike any Sunday School class we have ever attended.  Judas Asparagus.

Happy Birthday was sung to October Rotarians.

Darcy presented Hillary with a Paul Harris Fellowship for all of her contributions to Rotary.  Thank you for all you have done Hillary, and all the best in Victoria!

Our first speaker was inbound student Victoria Debonnet from Belgium, thank you Victoria for your informative presentation and lovely pictures of your home country!

Our second speaker was Janice Wing speaking about "Foundation".  November is Foundation Month.  If any Rotarians have any questions about contributing to the Rotary Foundation, ask Janice, or Gerry Winia.

Next meeting: November 4 2013 North Hill Inn 12 pm. It will be a Special Remembrance Day Meeting.
