Rotary Club Meeting Minutes - November 25th 2013


President Darcy Mykytshyn reminded us of events that took place on November 25th in years past, including the United Nations declaring the International Day Against Violence Against Women, “Do They Know It’s Christmas” was recorded, and JFK was laid to rest.  We also celebrated November birthdays.  Darcy announced the board met last week and minutes are available on Clubrunner.  Also announced was the upcoming resignation of Brian Hamilton, and the addition of Jack Panteluk, Eric Madsen and Dallas Williams to the board.

Happy/Sad Bucks included:  Advertising bucks from Blaine Duchanek to make sure everyone who is able signs up to help with the Salvation Army Kettles.  There were happy bucks for an update to the Shelterbox Program.  Robert Mitchell had announcement bucks that the Parkland Beach General Store collected $500 through an in-store collection.  The money will be used to buy gift cards for flood victims of High River.  There were more happy bucks for Amanda Lindhout’s recent speech in Lacombe, the opening of the Cancer Centre in Red Deer, a flash mob at the Festival of Trees, and Morris Flewwelling had happy bucks for 21 years in municipal government and his recent award at the AUMA conference in Calgary.  

The Sarge announced that more volunteers are still needed for the December 15th meals happening in High River for those affected by the June flooding.  Contact Janice if you are interested, and carpooling can be arranged.  

50-50 Draw – Bob Mills had the lucky ticket, but didn’t pull the lucky card.  

ImageOur in-bound student  Victoria Debonnet and Isobel Lauerner filled the Club in on their efforts to raise on-going money for the Shelterbox program for future emergencies.  Great work!

Phil Pattison gave an impassioned presentation about the the work currently underway to improve literacy in western Belize.   Phil wants Rotarians to know that their money is making a big difference.  

Next Meeting:  December 2nd 2013 North Hill Inn, Red Deer 12 PM  The Youth and Volunteer Centre will give an update on how the money we have invested has been used.
