Meeting Notes - July 29, 2013

Rotary Club Meeting July 29th

Our Chair for the day was Phil Pattison who wished a happy birthday to all July Rotarians.  On short notice, Past President Ken Johnston stepped in to take the role of Sarge. He was fifth choice, but took the time to remind everyone that there are eight choices on this Fall's ballot.  Ken told us a long, very detailed story about fishing, trailer hitches, and finally underlying how karma is a ...... Anchors Aweigh!

Guests of Rotary were: Larry Pimm, Lynn Davis, and Leslie Burton, Alan Anderson, and Michael Dawe of Rotary East.

Happy/Sad bucks included... Bre Fitzpatrick had happy dollars for moving into a new home, and explained how all household tasks were either "pink or blue" jobs. Chris Warren had 20 happy dollars for 3 great weeks in Hawaii, and 20 survival dollars for an unscheduled dismount from a ladder when he was tending his Virginia Creeper.  Garth Olsen had happy dollars for his son's captainship with West Jet.  
 
50-50:  Steve Chow pulled the Jack of Diamonds.

Guest speakers were from the Red Deer Centennial Committee, including Event Committee Chair Leslie Burton, Chair of the Fundraising Committee Lynn Davis, and Chair of the Legacy Subcommittee Larry Pimm.  They outlined some of the fabulous Centennial events that have already happened this year, and gave a glimpse of what is yet to come, including Banners on the Bridge September 1st, a Centennial Chocolate Chase September 1st, a Bike parade September 7th, an Old Fashioned Fair September 21st, the unveiling of a fibre art legacy project by Patti Morris in the Children's Library in October, and Fire and Ice December 12th.  Rotarians were also briefed on fundraising for the year's event, and the importance of the Legacy Projects.  Thanks for a great update and presentation!
