Downtown Rotary Club Meeting Notes
In true Westerner Days fashion, Rotarians held a competition to see whether the east or west side of the room could yell Yahoo! or Yeehaw! the loudest. At the last moment, the Sarge (Ray Dunham) changed Yeehaw to Yippee for the east side of the room - confusing them - and they didn't stand a chance. The injustice was righted later in the meeting.
Chair: Darcy Mykytyshyn was fined 10 dollars for wearing a cowboy hat.
Visiting Rotarians: Jim McSween from Sylvan Lake, Al Chiswell from Lacombe, Allan Melbourne from Red Deer East.
Guests of Rotary: Rick Van Hemmen, Ernie Tromposch, Reis Duchanek, Warren Dosko.
Sad/Happy Bucks: included happy bucks from Blaine Dushanek on having his son Reis attend his first Rotary meeting and his first year working. Bre Fitzpatrick had happy dollars for buying her first house which the Sarge quickly returned saying "you'll need it". Diane McDonell had sad bucks for our exchange student Anni returning to her native Finland, but happy that our inbound student Victoria will be arriving from Belgium.
At this point, the Sarge relented on his earlier decision saying there weren't as many people on the east side of the room and that the west side of the room had to pay $2 each for losing the Yeehaw competition. (He could make more money from the west side...shhhh)
Reis Dushanek had the winning 50-50 ticket, but pulled a queen from the deck.
For the program portion of the meeting, Rick Van Hemmen and Ernie Tromposch updated the Club on the proposed expansion at the Nova Chemicals site at Joffre.
Chair Darcy Mykytyshyn acknowledged Ron Woodward for his contribution to the strategic planning session and noted that the plan will be discussed at next week's meeting. He also advised people to make sure their whooping cough (pertussis) vaccine is up to date, especially if they are involved with children or grandchildren. Also, the Sheraton is providing $25 dollar gift certificates to everyone who purchased a Citizen of the Year Gala ticket as amends for the food situation at this year's event. They are in letter-form and will be available at the next couple of meetings.
