Rotary Meeting Notes

Gerry W. revisited the role of president after 6 years. He announced the death of Frank Hollman and his funeral which was a celebration of his life on Tuesday, April 9th at the Gaetz United Church. He will be warmly remembered for designing a 50/50 ticket dispenser before we went electronic. He was an architect by day and an engineer at the hockey games.

Blaine Newton took the role of Sargent and gave a riveting version on his take of the latest news.

Happy/ Sad bucks

We had many snowbirds return and shared that they had wonderful winters away. A few mentions of note were Robert having a tumor removed and enjoying a full recovery. Congrats Robert- that is wonderful news!

Ken Johnson gave a wonderful tribute to Frank Hollman, along with several other Rotarians. He shared of the overwhelming generosity Frank lived life with and how he had survived an airplane crash at the age of 80.

Brian Hamilton reminded us of the Mac and Cheese luncheon coming up. Tables are $1000.00 and they have 45 sold to date. It is an event put on by our club- let’s get out and support it. Contact Brian for more details.

Ross Fletcher brought a bottle of Dom for the Citizen of the Year gala wine tree and issued a challenge to another member to supply another bottle for the other wine tree at the event. Any takers?

Dallas Williams also reminded us about Citizen of the year coming up on May 2nd. Sell your tickets and get your wine contributions in. Tickets and sponsorship opportunities are still available. Contact Dallas for more info.

Paul Harris Fellowship Awards 

Gerry did a special presentation to all of our members who had contributed to the Rotary Foundation and were being awarded Paul Harris Fellowship awards. Our club offers a matching program were contributions of $500 will be matched to bring it up to $1000. It is a wonderful way to build special projects like the Water, Literacy, Library and training projects in our International Rotary locations. Over ½ of our current membership are contributing members . Since 1957 our club has contributed $372,000 to the Rotary Foundation with the help of 182 contributing Rotarians.
