March 24 2014 Rotary Meeting Bulletin
The meeting was opened by our President Darcy Mykytyshyn.
Our Sarge for the day was Glen LaBuc.
Guests of Rotary included: Hannah Kemp, Blaire Biggs, Naomi Akkermanns, Luke Radau, Wanda Radau, Shawna Dawson, Steven Johnston
Visiting Rotarians included: Judy Ann Wybenga, Ray McBeth, Ray Miller, Jim MacSween
Happy/Sad Bucks included: Happy Bucks from Ken Johnston for his return to Rotary after a three-month hiatus. Phil Maczuga had happy dollars for a great weekend at outbound orientation with outbound student Shawna Dawson. He also mentioned Victoria Debonnet (our inbound student) has her parents visiting in town. He has also sold his house and will be leaving for Manitoba at the end of June. Robert Mast had happy bucks for selling his half of his practice, but says his retirement is a long time off. Gloria Beck had some bucks to tell the Club that the historic Pine Lake Church had suffered a great deal of vandalism, but the culprits have been caught. There were happy bucks to have members of area 4H clubs visiting today. There were also bucks to suggest that Rotarians nominate one of their colleagues for the upcoming Women of Excellence Awards. Judy Ann Wybenga had announcement bucks for the Sunrise Rotary's Second Annual Virtual Auction. Gail Surkan had what she called "fluffy bucks" to acknowledge she is home briefly from Mexico and is on her way back again. Jim MacSween had bucks to mark the passing of three members of the legal community. Morris Flewwelling had bucks to say he and Hazel attended the Didsbury-Carstairs Club night. He also noted a newspaper article on a former Young Citizen of the Year, Meagan McLavish. Grace Zhang had announcement dollars to remind people to donate to the wine tree for the Citizen of the Year Gala.
The Sarge then stumped everyone with questions about apples.
50-50: Shawna Dawson had the winning ticket, and pulled the lucky Joker to win $120. Well done Shawna!
Our guest speakers were Hannah Kemp, Blaire Biggs, Naomi Akkermans, and Luke Radau who spoke about the benefits of belonging to 4-H and what 4-H does for our community. They also let us know about the upcoming Red Deer and District 4-H Beef Show and Sale June 1 and June 2 at the Red Deer Westerner Agri Center. Thanks very much!
