Rotary Meeting Bulletin for April 7 2014

Sad/Happy Bucks included: Ray Dunham had some happy bucks for vacationing down south. Melody McKnight had happy bucks for Phoenix Construction who sponsored the brochures for a recent Red
Deer Symphony event, and the pamphlets weren't distributed. They contained a coupon for a new carwash they were building, and they were available at the back of the room. Ross Fletcher
brought a bottle of Dom Perignon for the wine tree. There are rumours the bottle will be matched, more to come! There were also bucks for the upcoming Wildrose Harmonizers event on May 2nd.
Jim McPherson had happy bucks to announce the Celebrity Dance Off raised $417,000. Bre Fitzparick had happy bucks for a recent fundraiser for MS that raised $7500. Gerry Winia had sad
bucks to leave Belize, but happy bucks for the good work of the vocational training team for the Literacy Alive project. He brought two thank-you cards for our club from two Belize
schools. Gloria Beck had announcement bucks to say fellow Rotarian Michael Dawe would be at the Garden Centre Saturday afternoon selling and autographing his latest book.
50-50 - Glenn Moore had the lucky ticket, but didn't win the lucky draw.
President Darcy Mykytyshyn announced he is off to China to recruit students into the Donald School of Business. Darcy then reminded the Club of the remarkable opportunity of attending the
special dinner for Rotary International President Ron Burton on May 2nd. The reception is May 2nd, with a 5:30 pm reception and 7 pm dinner.
Inbound student Victoria gave the Club an update of her week, including making a snowman on Friday, and the arrival of Spring on Saturday. She also did some visiting and shopping.
Victoria is heading to Lethbridge for the Rotary District Conference.
Our Guest Speaker was Jill Applegate, Rotary Employment Coordinator with the Alberta Association for Community Living. Applegate spoke on the Rotary Employment Partnership, a collaborationof Rotary Clubs and Associations to create meaningful employment for people with developmental disabilities. Rotarians are asked to consider employing someone with a disability. Over 270
jobs have been created in Alberta through the program. It's a chance to enhance your reputation as an inclusive employer, demonstrate corporate citizenship, get a high performing employee,
and the chance to change someone's life. Thank you for your presentation!
