Googong Vision. 14 August 2019 by Eleanor Oyston
Hi Everyone,
As you know Rosemary Flanagan and I joined Jerra Rotary with the view to understanding how Rotary worked! We found a buzzing group of like-minded folk contributing to many aspects of life in their local community and internationally - just what we hope is possible in our new and fast growing township of Googong.

I have felt encouraged and supported in developing a relationship with local folk in Jerra and Googong. Chris Hunter taught us how to ‘do sausage’ fund raisers, Anton had an ‘A’ frame made minutes after we suggested asking Googong developers if we could advertise Jerra Rotary and Chilly encouraged our ideas. David Bailey, one cold and frosty morning at the markets, bubbled with ideas and support for a Googong Rotary Club and seems to have the experience, know-how and wisdom to help us address any challenges.
This year Bruce invited Rosemary and me onto a committee and plans are slowly falling into place. Rosemary and I met with Samantha Remmers, Googong’s community development manager, to look at a venue for our first information night in Googong. Sam showed us the fresh and new community space which is flexible and inviting. Sam also offered support from her small budget and welcomed the idea of Rotary coming to Googong. Local food outlets are keen to be involved with the catering.
The “by invitation” introductory gathering is scheduled for ….
Wednesday 2 October 2019, 6.30 to 9.00pm.
With Samantha’s help we are inviting local business folk to a light meal. We will introduce the exciting aspects of Rotary. Anton and Chilly have agreed to be guest speakers and Rosemary will facilitate the night.
We would love your advice and support, understanding when we hit a learning curve as well as ideas that might create a ‘2020’ Rotary community tailored to the needs of time-poor modern folk.
