COMMUNITY SERVICE COMMITTEE –

Rotary Information – General Roles and Responsibilities
Community Service is the opportunity Rotary clubs have to implement club projects and activities that improve life in the local community. When clubs complete effective service projects, they improve the community, bring people together, and reflect well on Rotary.

Community Service is perhaps the best known of the avenues of service. It includes all projects (other than vocational service projects) which help the people in the local community. It is charity at its best when the members pitch in on a "hands on" basis. Clubs are urged to go into the community to find out what the community really needs, rather than the club determining what the community needs.
  • The general responsibilities of the Community Service Committee are summarized below:
    • Develop committee goals to help achieve the club’s annual goals.
    • Every Rotary Club and every Rotarian assumes a responsibility to find ways to improve the quality of life for those in their communities and to serve the public interest.
    • Encourage and foster the ideal of service to the personal, business and community life of every Rotarian.
    • Provide opportunities for every Rotarian to exemplify “Service Above Self”.
    • Respond (quickly if needed) to the needs of the local community.
    • Implement actions that are relevant to the community, serve as a learning experience for Rotarians and identify the Rotary club’s role in its community.
The responsibilities of the Community Service Committee Chair are:
  • Oversee committee functions and convene regular committee meetings/activities as needed
  • Supervise and coordinate the committee’s work
  • Report committee activities to the club Board
