Clearly, there is meaning here for us all, no matter what our role in Rotary. We need to find new ways to invent ourselves in a world where physical contact needs to be limited but social engagement and community service is more important than ever. Ceasing activities, relaxing our engagement....going dark....is not an option.
Addressing Member Health
First, a call tree strategy will have several retirees engaged in regular telephone contact with other retired members. As well they will stay in touch with new members (<1 yr).
Second, in a way that is less targeted but just as important, all members are encouraged to keep in regular contact with their Rotary friends. President Sherry talks about this at every opportunity. Many of us act on committees. Others are part of the board. New members have sponsors and mentors, in fact all of us have sponsors. These are easy calls to make.Take a moment to connect by telephone not with an email.
We challenge each of you to speak with at least two or three Rotarians every week by telephone. Speak with your friends but also speak with those that live alone, those with few relatives in Lethbridge, those whose businesses are challenged by the times, those who might otherwise not receive many calls.
Club Health
When it comes to club health we are resuming regular on line meetings every second Monday and communicating with Facebook Live on the intervening Mondays. Rota-Buzz, the weekly newsletter will continue.
Community Health
As businesses struggle, employees are laid off, schools close and we all “social distance” our community needs us more than ever. Monthly Project Teams are encouraged to actively select a charity in need, no matter which month you were originally scheduled for.
Times are changing…….quickly. We must respond just as quickly.
Going dark is not the answer. Do Goodery is the answer.
