Lynda Kavanagh and Todd Brown are looking for 13-15 year-olds to attend RAYEC (the Rotary Alberta Youth Entrepreneurship Camp) from Aug 9-15. Delegates will work in groups to come up with a business plan, create a product and sell it by the end of the camp. Talk to Linda or Todd if you know of students who might be interested. Our Club hopes to sponsor 4 students, at a cost of $1000 each.
Jasmine Belisle, on behalf of the Interact Club, invited us to support their Global Gala on June 13. Proceeds will go to Victims Services locally, and to the water project in Costa Rica on which Interact is partnering with our Club.
Joel Snodgrass gave his Vocational Talk today. Raised in Medicine Hat, Joel came to the U of L to complete his BMgmt/BSci, and has called Lethbridge home ever since……except when he is travelling. Joel spent 3 weeks in Costa Rica right after convocation, caring for children, which helped him gain a new perspective on life. On his return, he joined the Bank of Montreal as a Financial Services Manager. He took a 6-month leave in 2018 for more travel: teaching English in Vietnam, working with children in Laos, and backpacking through Thailand and Cambodia before leaving for Europe, connecting with extended family in Italy. Back in Lethbridge, Joel moved to the commercial side of BMO. Joel’s mission in life is to help as many people as he can. Welcome to Rotary, Joel.
Andrew Bronson and Maurice Hollingsworth gave a great presentation on the Dominica Project. Hurricane Maria devasted Dominica in 2017. With the help of the magic of Rotary matching grants, the Rotary Club of Lethbridge East and several committed partners were able to equip 23 schools with current computer technology. Three technical wizards accompanied Maurice, Maurice’s son, Andrew and Andrew’s wife to Domenica, where they installed the wiring and infrastructure for 1760 Chromebooks over two weeks last summer. The video clips showed the students’ sheer excitement with what they could do with their new resources.
