Some interesting points;
 
In 1878 Charles William Harvey with his family arrived in Sydney from London on the sailing ship Plymouth and established a Sydney jewellery store. That is 144 years ago and also the same number of facets on a Bluefire diamond!
 
In 1920 his grandson [my grandfather] Frederick Harvey established his jewellery store in Grafton. That is over one-hundred years ago.
 
On 2 July 1992, Jennifer and Desmond opened their jewellery store in Harveys Arcade, 54-56 Prince Street. That is coming up to 30 years ago – to the date. See photo attached where Mayor Alan Dahl conducted the official opening.

Hello dear GMR Members & friends,
 
I hope you are all enjoying the sunshine & had a good long weekend.
 
Friday night was our 1st Friday night raffle at the Crown Hotel led by Raffles leaders Bob & Don accompanied by Judy, Mark B & yours truly with our partners also attending. Wow, what a night was had with sales of 347 tickets with a net result of $242! There were lots of visitors in town due to many events being held in Grafton on the weekend. Our new Square terminal was a real winner taking around 70% of our sales! After raffles we stayed an enjoyed dinner. Our next Raffle night is Friday 8th July. Thank you to everyone who attended & supported us on the night.
 
Last Wednesday’s meeting Peter gave us a summary of the Book Sale held the previous week, and we heard a summary of events from the Learning & Development day from PE Lee, Treasurer Mark T & incoming Public Relations Mark B of some key learnings from the day.
 
Thursday night we held our June board meeting where I chaired my last board meeting as President. It has been an absolute pleasure in working with my board over the 21/22 year to continue to work together maintaining & improving our club & our community, and I thank each & every board member. This meeting was a combined meting of the 21/22 & the 22/23 board members. Over the next couple of weeks we will summarise the key outcomes for the benefit of the members in a Club Assembly.
 
As we move into yet another week, we are preparing for the end of Financial & Rotary year’s where we commence finalisation for our Rotary year. The 21/22 year was yet another interrupted & fairly eventful year with Covid playing a major part in disruption of our year, however we all got through it, thank you.
 
Just a reminder that if any member has any special dietary requirements please let us know so that we can let the Kitchen know to have an alternate meal prepared for you as Sylvia is more than accommodating for us with our meals.

  • Admission to the convention’s opening and closing ceremonies and general sessions, where you’ll hear from inspiring and entertaining speakers, including top leaders in our organization
  • Informative breakout sessions to help you build your communication, leadership, and project management skills
  • Opportunities to network and exchange ideas while browsing the project and fellowship booths in the House of Friendship
  • Entertainment provided by local artists and musicians in the House of Friendship and at the general sessions
  • Transportation between your hotel and the convention venue, if you booked your hotel through Rotary’s official housing partner, Maritz Global Events

  • Preconvention events
  • Rotary- and host-ticketed events
  • Accommodations, meals, and transportation to and from the airport

Cancellations and refunds

A $50 processing fee now applies to each registrant (each person) who cancels on a registration. Requests to cancel registrants or Rotary-ticketed events must be received in writing by 30 April 2023. Cancellations caused by visa denial must be received in writing by 31 May 2023.

HUMOUR FOR THE WEEK
A man in Sydney walked into the produce section of his local supermarket and asked to buy half a head of lettuce. The boy working in the produce department told him that they only sold whole heads of lettuce.
The man was insistent that the boy ask the manager about the matter. Walking into the back room, the boy said to the manager, “Some old bastard outside wants to buy half a head of lettuce”.

As he finished his sentence, he turned around to find that the man had followed and was standing right behind him, so the boy quickly added, “and this gentleman kindly offered to buy the other half”.
The manager approved the deal and the man went on his way.
