JOKE CORNER

A Texan farmer goes to Australia for a vacation. There he meets an Aussie farmer and gets talking. The Aussie shows off his big wheat field and the Texan says: “Oh! We have wheat fields that are at least twice as large.”

Then they walk around the ranch a little and the Aussie shows off his herd of cattle. The Texan immediately says: “We have longhorns that are at least twice as large as your cows.”

The conversation has, meanwhile, almost died when the Texan sees a herd of kangaroos hopping through the field. He asks: “And what are those?”
The Aussie asks with an incredulous look: “Don’t you have any grasshoppers in Texas?”

Hello everyone. I hope that you all had a good week and enjoying the weekend.

This week’s Wednesday’s meeting continued to be in the true spirit of our club where we all had an enjoyable lunch and shared some good fellowship. Lee was in charge of preselling tickets for the regular Friday raffles and outsold Bob’s ticket selling the week before with the help of Don! Great work Lee. Peter gave a rundown of our Blaze Aid efforts and I gave an update on our “wounded soldier” Herman. His injury is not as bad as 1^st thought with no surgery required but a brace for 5 weeks, a quick recovery Herman!

Lee advised that our club has been nominated for a Greater Bank possible grant where voting will be required and a possible $3,000 reward. More information to follow when voting is open. Our Sergeant at Arms, Mark kept our meeting in order & on time and took us through a very enjoyable “Happy Dollar” session with lots of fun, laughter and banter, just what is required for many of us on “Hump day Wednesday”.

Thursday night our monthly board meeting was held. We managed to get through our full agenda on the night and then stayed for some further fellowship for dinner. We will share our board outcomes at our next Member forum which will probably be on Wednesday 4^th Nov.

Lee, Leila, Brian and I attended the Cluster Muster in Casino on Saturday led by our dynamic DG Andy & Past Governor Michael Irving. Like many forums and conferences I’m sure we all learned something new about Rotary to bring back & share with our club. The day re-enforced some of the many reasons that we are Rotarians, and continue to do good in our community / world. Remember there are more Rotary clubs in the world than McDonalds burger outlets! Being a Rotarian allows you to travel anywhere in the world and be welcomed by likeminded fellow Rotarians, what other organisation can offer that? We will share these learnings within our club to strengthen our already vibrant club that we are, and allow us to keep progressing into the future with doing good in our community.

t each year for hundreds of Rotary clubs around Australia and New Zealand is the Polio Movie Event. This year’s movie is I Am Woman, the inspiring story of Australian singer/songwriter, Helen Reddy, who shot to global stardom in the seventies.

Come help the club highlight Rotary's World Polio Day with the screening of "I am Woman’ on 31st October at the Saraton tickets will be $15.

ROTARY'S BOOK SALE

The first Rotary's 4 day book sale to be held under Covid 19 Rules.

Many request have come from the public for the club to run the book sale over the last two months,

so the committee after due consideration have set the following as the next sale.

Wednesday 4th to Friday 6th November 9am to 5pm

SATURDAY 7th 8.30.am to 1.00pm

at the CRITERION THEATRE Oliver street Grafton

Covid 19 Social Distancing will apply.

This will be the first sale is to try a new format conducted over 4 days.

Set up will be Tuesday afternoon from 4 pm at Blanchard's storage shed and a 5 pm start at the Criterion Theatre

Sale will kick off on at 9 am close at 5 pm Wednesday ,Thursday and Friday with Saturday 8 am to 1 pm

Followed by pack up.

We will only require 3 members per shift of 4 hours a roaster will be at the next couple of meeting

This Week Trivia Question

THE OFFICIAL ROTARY FLAG

An official flag was formally adopted by Rotary International at the 1929 Convention in Dallas, Texas. The Rotary flag consists of a white field with the official wheel emblem emblazoned in gold in the center of the field The four depressed spaces on the rim of the Rotary wheel are colored royal blue. The words "Rotary" and "International' printed at the top and bottom depressions on the wheel rim are also gold. The shaft in the hub and the key way of the wheel are white.
The first official Rotary flag reportedly was flown in Kansas City Missouri, in January 1915. In 1922 a small Rotary flag was carried over the South Pole by Admiral Richard Byrd, a member of the Winchester, Virginia Rotary Club. Four years later, the admiral carried a Rotary flag in his expedition to the North Pole.
Some Rotary clubs use the official Rotary flag as a banner at club meetings. In these instances it is appropriate to print the words "Rotary Club" above the wheel symbol, and the name of the city, state or nation below the emblem.
The Rotary flag is always prominently displayed at the World Headquarters as well as at all conventions and official events of Rotary International.
