   PRESIDENT'S  RUMBLE
Hello everyone,

I trust you are all coping well through this current situation we are facing with lockdowns & facemasks. These restrictions did have an impact on our scheduled social / fellowship gathering on Wednesday where it was best to cancel the event, however the restrictions didn’t stop the cluster’s last two changeovers being Monday for Grafton Rotary & Thursday’s Maclean Rotary changeovers.

Both events were well attended by our own Grafton Midday members attending the Grafton event including, David & Leila, Mark Blackadder, Camellia, Bob & Kath, Gerelle & myself. A lovely night was had by members & guests where DG Andy was represented by Past District governor, Denis Green.

On Thursday night at Maclean, Past District governor, Peter Robinson was DG Andy’s representative, along with Lee & Terry, Mark Blackadder, Gerelle & myself attended. PDG Peter played a large part of the formalities where he awarded a number of awards including a number of attendance awards including Rex Wiseman with twenty six (26) years of 100% attendance, what an effort!Once again it was an enjoyable night.

Now that all of our cluster changeovers have occurred we can look forward to another great year of being a Rotarian in our district under the leadership of DG Jeff Egan.

During the week we were also very fortunate to have received the district grant funds for our combined bridge project. By receiving these funds allows us to continue pushing this project forward for our community with the intended completion date by the end of August. Thank you to the district Grants team & DG Andy for working with us on this wonderful project to benefit our community.

If you are attending the races I hope that you have an enjoyable time, and will look forward to our regular meeting Wednesday week at the newly owned Roches Hotel.
President, Robert

CURRY NIGHT AT THE GALLERY
Hi All Grafton Midday Members,
The Grafton Midday Board has all agreed to proceed with a new GMR Fundraiser ‘Curry at The Gallery’ on Saturday evening 14th August 2021, from 5:00 - 9:00pm (setting up from 3:00pm in the Gallery Courtyard).
Please do not stress if you did not know anything about this event, as it is well organised already through myself, a small committee and the remaining Midday Board, however the night will need a few other members to help set up and pull-down tables etc on and before the night.
A number of Chefs from Grafton Restaurants/Hotels have been invited to cook a specialty curry and bring it along for the tasting of, similar to the famous Soup Day Fundraiser at the Grafton Gallery. There will be a bar service available run by RSA holders to purchase alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, with profits going to the Club. We are also very lucky to be able to use the Gallery’s liquor licence on the night.
As August can be quite cool, there are only 4 tall gas heaters available (at this stage), so you may need to ‘rug up’ on the night, as it will be out in the Gallery courtyard. The Gallery are supporting us for the event, however have asked the Club for a small donation which we would present on the night.
Please do not be concerned about the timing of the event on a Winter’s night - if it’s too cold, then this will leave it open for those who want to come and can handle the cold – there is no age limit. We cannot cater for everyone and this is the time slot the Gallery has kindly given us, keeping in mind the 1–2-hour set-up time outside Gallery opening hours to the general public. It also suit’s a classy dinner time event at a prestigious venue, which I’m quite sure will attract many people.
The reason I’m sending out this APB (all-points bulletin - for those who love acronyms) is for you to buy your tickets and get in first if you would like to attend, as we think they’ll go like hot cakes (or would that be hot curry?).
100 seated tickets are up for sale and we’ve already reserved around 10-15 unofficially outside the Club just mentioning it in general conversation. So, around 85 tickets are up for grabs. Midday Members may take up to another 35-40 tickets, so only 45-50 to hot sell via Eventbrite.
Tickets are $45pp and will be available through Eventbrite very soon. So please don’t ‘dilly dally on the way’ as they say, otherwise you will miss out and I’ll never hear the end of it!
I’ll be sending out the Eventbrite link to all members over the next couple of days, so keep a lookout in your emails. I’ll also get PE Lee to text everyone as soon as they are up for the buying of.
If the event is cancelled due to inclement weather or any dreaded COVID Restrictions, you’ll be able to hang onto your tickets for a further date to be announced (which the Gallery has pencilled in on Saturday 18th September at this stage). There is no refund of tickets if you can’t make the second date as it is a fundraiser, so please organise to give your tickets to someone else and arrange payment back to yourself etc if you would like to go down that track.

JOKE CORNER

On a busy Saturday morning a young boy was lost in the shopping centre.
He told a police officer, "I've lost my dad."
"What's he like?" the cop asked.
"Football and beer," the kid replied.
