Welcome GMR members & friends of GMR,
Hasn’t it been nice to be able to enjoy some blue skies, & bright sun over the past week.
It was fantastic to be able to host our 1st book sale for 2022 over the past couple of days at the Criterion. A massive thank you to team leader Peter & his team of tireless workers to make this event happen. My personal thanks goes out to all the helpers that assisted from Thursday afternoon to Saturday afternoon to make this event happen, no matter how big or small your help was. These events cannot occur without your help for the benefit of our communities. Events like the book sale also brings our club members together to continue to bolster working together building our strengths to continue working as a team which further strengthens our dynamic club. Almost every Tuesday Peter, David & Leila attend the storage shed to collect & sort books, take rubbish to the Transfer Station which makes our job easier for the smooth operation of the Book sale, Thank you so much Peter, David & Leila.
On Wednesday our President Elect Lee gave a great summary of some of the wonderful ideas that she has in stall for our club for her upcoming year with the theme of RI President Jennifer Jones, “Imagine”! Image Rotary, Image our Club, Image our community, Image our world! Lee also gave the members a quick view of the spreadsheet that herself & Herman have spend many hours on to assist in planning events & projects for the upcoming year. Once the spreadsheet is completed it will be a “Working Document” where members will be able to view upcoming projects & events to help in planning for the future. We will be very fortunate to have the RI Convention in Melbourne in late May 2023 so mark this event in your calendar if interested as already we have some of our members interested in attending.
Over the next coming weeks we will give a summary of key events that VP Lee, Mark T, Mark B & myself learned form the Learning & development day last Sunday at Alstonville run by district leading into our 22/23 year under the leadership of Karen Thomas. We have the District Directory now so if you haven’t received yours as yet, ask Lee for a copy.
This Thursday we have our June Board meeting. This meeting will be my last Official board meeting after some two years & five months of leading our board through what one might describe as fairly tumultuous times to ensure our club keeps progressing & modern within Rotary & our community. A couple of sayings that came out of a recent Membership summit to think about were:
- Inspire or Expire
- Evolve or Dissolve
If we keep sayings like this at top of mind, we will continue to be a dynamic & progressive club that we continue to be today serving our members & our community to make it better for ourselves & the broader community. I welcome all of our current board members & 22/23 incoming board members to attend at the Crown Hotel at 5.30pm Thursday.
We have been advised that our DG representative for our changeover dinner is District Governor Elect Dave Harmon & his wife Robyn will be at our changeover dinner. Dave & Robyn are well known to our club & have made memorable moments within our club when he visits.
This Friday we welcome the return of our Friday night raffles but at our new home of the Crown Hotel. Raffles will commence around 6.15 – 6.30pm led by Bob & Don this week so make an evening of it and come along to support the Crown & our club and stay afterwards if you like for a meal & socialising between us all. At this stage we have raffles every 4 weeks in a roster system sharing with other community & sporting clubs.
