Well everyone, after a 2 week absence Gerelle & I arrived back home on Sunday after a Road trip stretching from Forster to Armidale via Mudgee, Bathurst, Forbes, Parkes, Dubbo. My car was packed to the brim with some wonderful wines purchased from Mudgee, Orange & Armidale. I even found a wine for a secretary extraordinaire Greg Butcher at Philip Shaw Winery, Orange “ The Conductor”! We travelled some 2,000km and saw some great places, met lovely people & enjoyed some great scenery.Whilst I was away Vice President Lee took the reigns and continued to lead our wonderful club with our dynamic members. From what I understand a great night was experienced at our social Taylors Wine gathering. It was a shame that Gerelle & I missed it, however a lot of fun was had and raised some money for our defibrillator project.
                                                                                                                                                                  
 
 During my time away, I was fortunate to meet with the president & members of the Tamworth Rotary First Light club at the Tamworth Post Office Hotel. They were doing their regular Friday raffles and was great to be part of their fundraiser with our friends Debbie & Rick taking home a meat tray!
 
 At our meeting on Wednesday 30th September it was a pleasure to have District Governor Assistant Anne Farrell attend our meeting along with guests of Chrissy Lynch, Skye Sear & Gerelle making a total of 20 persons. Anne was able to bring us up to date with a few things from District, Thank you Anne.
 
 
It was exciting news to receive the official email from Glenn Wran, Chair of District Grants Committee on behalf of DG Andy to advise that we have been successful in our combined Grant Application with Grafton Rotary for the Bridges park project. The Grant is around AU$11,000. At our meeting Lee advised that she has been in discussions with Dave Sutton at CV Council and an onsite meeting will occur soon to start planning for the project. In conjunction with Grafton Rotary we do need to match this grant amount and if needed Lee will ride her bike a long distance to raise some more funds for the project.
 
It is with sadness that we heard of the death of Helen Reddy , who the 2020 Polio Film “ I am a woman” will be screened sometime in October / November at the Saraton theatre for a Polio Fundraiser. This screening on the big screen will make this a very memorable event and raise further funds for Polio.
 
Our National Science Forum student Charlize Girdler will be at our next meeting on Wednesday 7th October to meet the club.

BLAZE AID
VOLUNTEERS FOR BLAZE AID  
Welcome to BlazeAid  –  a volunteer-based organisation that works with families and individuals in rural Australia after natural disasters such as fires and floods. Working alongside the rural families, our volunteers help to rebuild fences and other structures that have been damaged or destroyed.
Equally important, volunteers also help to lift the spirits of people who are often facing their second or third flood event after years of drought, or devastating losses through bushfires. BlazeAid volunteers work in a disaster-affected area for many months, not only helping individuals and families, but also helping rebuild the local communities.

BREAKFAST: From 6:15 to 7:00am
 
MUSTER:  7:00am  Mandatory for all volunteers working that day.
**If you are volunteering for a day at a time then returning home, you MUST be at our basecamp no later than 7am each morning and we MUST know that you are coming.
MEALS:  Meals are provided for volunteers, but please bring your own snacks. Breakfast and a nourishing two-course evening meal are provided by BlazeAid (with help from local community groups) at the basecamps.
Where possible, the families you’re working with will provide morning tea  for volunteers each day. Otherwise, BlazeAid provides food for you to make your own sandwiches to take with you.
Official Opening of PCYC
Members attend Opening of the Grafton PCYC
Bob Booth and Lee Taylor where proud to attend the Official Opening of the PCYC Grafton as our Rotary Club representatives.  PCYC was established in 1937 by Police Commissioner William John MacKay. It was a partnership forged with the community via Rotary to provide young people with a safe and positive alternative to the streets.
Beginning as a consultation between PCYC NSW and Clarence Valley Council more than two years ago, the resulting $6.5 million refurbishment of the Grafton Sports Centre has delivered a state-of-the-art facility and a massive coup for locals
PCYC (Police Citizens Youth Clubs) is a not-for-profit organisation which empowers youths to reach their full potential through community activities, support and development programs in partnership with NSW Police Youth and Crime Prevention Command.
MEMBERS of the Clarence Valley community, the police force and local and national government came together for the official opening of the Grafton PCYC on Friday.

News from the President elect.
 
What a busy week for everyone the year seems to have flown by although we have been in so unusual spaces – never seen before.
A well attended meeting where we welcomed our Dynamic Assistant District Governor Anne Farrell, and guests Gerelle Blanchard, Skye Sear and Christine Lynch.
Our President is back after a refreshing tour of NSW – he gave us the run down of where he had visited – which seemed to be based by following the little sweet grapes that ferment into that sweet syrup mix called Wine.
BOOKSALE is set for November 4-7 at the Criterion – helpers will be required for Tuesday 3rd November – although this is also Melbourne Cup Day – we may have book running races……..
HOT OF THE PRESS – we have official correspondence that the District Grant we applied for in combo with the Grafton Club has been approved for $8070.00USD – this equates to around $11,000 AUD – planning will commence and we will be looking for helpers – many of them due to the BATON arriving in Grafton on the 5th February.
CLUSTER MUSTER – is still on a temporary date due to Covid restrictions and may be on the 24th October instead of the 17th as I previously advised – watch this space as training provided is very beneficial to ALL members and our DG Andy is looking for 50 members within the northern region to attend.
BLAZE AIDE – assistance day has been set for 10th October – 6am Breakfast start and Round UP at 7am for Job Delegation – please contact Peter Robinson for details and if you can help out.
POLIO DAY – 24th October Worldwide – we are still working out details with the Saraton to be confirmed when.
DOUGHERTY VILLA – lunch is back on Brian Don and Bob where going to help out.
Roches Regular Raffles are every week Friday 5-6.30pm – ticket will be presold and more prizes – bring your cash along or card and we will be selling at our meeting – you do not have to be there to win – Congrats to Brian who won a tray of Lamb Cutlets this Friday.
DEOSA – girls night in on 23rd October – aimed at involving Rotarians partners without a meeting – eating, chatting and pleasant surroundings – limit is 25 and we have almost filled the spots – please confirm with Lee if you want to come.

I am away on holidays to South West Rocks this week and will be an apology for the meeting – have a fun week and keep smiling.
