JOKE CORNER
An elderly man in Adelaide calls his son in Sydney and says, "I hate to
ruin your day, but I have to tell you that your mother and I are divorcing;
forty-five years of misery is enough."
"Dad, what are you talking about?" the son screams. "We can't stand the sight of each other any longer," the old man says. "We're sick of each other, and I'm sick of talking about this, so you call your sister in Brisbane and tell her," and he hangs up.
Frantic, the son calls his sister, who explodes on the phone. "Like heck they're getting divorced," she shouts, "I'll take care of this." She calls her dad immediately, and screams at the old man, "You are NOT getting divorced! Don't do a single thing until I get there. I'm calling my brother back, and we'll both be there tomorrow. Until then, don't do a thing, DO YOU HEAR ME?" and hangs up.
The old man h! angs up his phone and turns to his wife. "Okay," he says,
"they're coming for Christmas and paying their own airfares."

Hi GMR members, I hope everyone has had a good week so far. A little rain is certainly welcome.
This week’s meeting was well attended with 19 persons in attendance. The meeting was opened by Sargent Mark with a number of events that occurred on December 2nd, one of which was my dear mother’s birthday, sadly she didn’t quite make it to her 85th. In honour of her I dedicated the meeting to her. Thank you to each and every one of you that offered your condolences to Gerelle & I during this very sad time for us. It is nice to be part of and be around such a great group of people who are very caring. The family and staff of Blanchard’s gave Mum a wonderful send off on Saturday including the Hearse took a route from the church out past her home of over 60 years in Fry St, then along past our work premises where the staff had our fleet of vehicles lined up for a guard of honour and staff present before travelling back to the funeral home. What a wonderful tribute to such a lovely lady, my mum.
Greg gave us a very good run down of a number of items that have come out of our last two board meetings to bring members up to date along with the Baton relay start in Grafton on 4th February and the Wine fundraiser for our 100th year celebrations.
Lee was able to share with us of the Greater Bank grant coming our way of $500. Thank you to everyone who voted and the Greater bank

Next week we have DG Andy visiting our Wednesday meeting which will be again in the Stables area. The meals will be a three drop meal where you can swap with someone if needed. We encourage you to bring along your partners if they can. A special event will occur with our newest member Jeremy being inducted by DG Andy.
Don’t forget to let Lee or Jenny know if coming along to the Brushy pub on Thursday December 17th. A bus is organised for the night to transport us down & back.
A parting word from the meeting which I thought was very fitting given my circumstances this week:
“What you leave behind is not what is engraved in stone monuments, but what is woven into the lives of others”
Enjoy the rest of the weekend and see as many as we can on Wednesday to show DG Andy what a great club we are.
District Governor Andy Rajapakse will visit Grafton Midday club this Wednesday

Australia Rotary clubs raise awareness and funds to prevent domestic violence and support its victims.
The statistics are sobering: Intimate partner violence is the most common type of violence against women, affecting 30 percent of women worldwide, according to a 2013 World Health Organization report. As many as 38 percent of murders of women are committed by an intimate partner.
In New Zealand, a dozen women are killed by their partners or ex-partners each year. And in Australia, a woman is killed, on average, about every week.
Recognizing the desperate need for domestic-violence services in their communities, Rotary clubs throughout Australia and New Zealand are fundraising and partnering with charities to raise awareness and work on prevention and victim support.
As one club president said: When ending polio seemed insurmountable, Rotary stepped in. Why can’t Rotary help end domestic violence?
More than one approach
The Rotary Club of Maryborough, Victoria, Australia, is changing attitudes about domestic violence and generating positive community response with its multifaceted approach. What began as a social media campaign has grown to include community educational programs, publicity events that have reached millions, and the opportunity to present its SAFE program to the Royal Commission Into Family Violence (Victoria).
The Support, Advice, Facilitation, and Early Intervention model is a collaborative approach that gives everyone in the community a role to play in addressing family violence. Garry Higgins, the club’s project manager for the campaign #SayNO2familyviolence, believes it’s the type of program that has global application.
“As an independent, apolitical organization, Rotary can do and say things others can’t,” says Higgins, who presented the SAFE program to the Royal Commission.
Getting people to talk about domestic violence — once a taboo subject in the small town — was one of the club’s biggest challenges. To start that conversation, the club launched a communication campaign, Speak Up! #SayNO2familyviolence, which included social media posts and promotional brochures and posters.

Most Rotarians have never attended a Rotary district conference. They have not experienced one of the most enjoyable and rewarding privileges of Rotary membership. A district conference is for all club members and their spouses, not just for club officers and committee members. The purpose of a district conference is for fellowship, good fun, inspirational speakers and discussion of matters which make one's Rotary membership more meaningful. Every person who attends a district conference finds that being a Rotarian becomes even more rewarding because of the new experiences, insights and acquaintances developed at the conference. Those who attend a conference enjoy going back, year after year. Every one of Rotary's more than 500 districts has a conference annually. These meetings are considered so important that the Rotary International president selects a knowledgeable Rotarian as his personal representative to attend and address each conference. The program always includes several outstanding entertainment features, interesting discussions and inspirational programs. One of the unexpected benefits of attending a district conference is the opportunity to become better acquainted with members of one's own club in an informal setting. Lasting friendships grow from the fellowship hours at the district conference.
