Hi, everyone,
I hope that everyone had a great weekend.
This week’s meeting we were honoured to have our very own Fireman, Wayne Koppel talk to the meeting about Smoke & Fire. Wayne was dressed in his Fireman uniform and gave us all a very informed & knowledgeable talk about the dangers & effects of Smoke & Fire. Wayne reminded everyone that in the case of fire to do the following things (but not limited to):
- Ring Triple Zero
- “Stop, Drop & Roll”
- Close doors if possible in a room to contain the fire, and
- Get outside
Wayne also advised that there is a free service to the community for people that are elderly & / or have a disability where the local fire brigade will fit smoke alarms to you home, so he took a list with him of people needing this service. The approximate response time to a fire in Grafton by the Brigade is around 5 – 6 Minutes average. A huge thank you Wayne for providing our group with some great useable knowledge of Smoke & Fires. Keep up the good work Wayne for the community.
Last Friday night we enjoyed our annual Changeover dinner at Vines @ 139. What a wonderful night we had with around 50 people attending including District Governor Elect Jeff Egan & partner Kaileen, District Governor Assistant Anne & Husband Brian along with a number of current & past fellow Rotarians & friends, along with representatives from Grafton, Maclean & Yamba clubs. We also had a number of guests of which one was Peter Dougherty & Wife, Pam. Peter was awarded a Paul Harris Fellow for his work within our community. Along with Peter, Lee Taylor was awarded a PHF for her tireless work that she does in the Community, and Leila Thompson was awarded a Sapphire PHF. Congratulations to Peter, Lee & Leila.
I would like to thank each & every one of the persons that made this night an enjoyable night for everyone, with lots of fellowship, fun & laughter. The staff at Vines provided a lovely meal for us all in a great atmosphere. I won’t name all the persons involved in fear of missing someone, so thank you to everyone involved, no matter how much contribution you may have had.
As we did last year, the 2020/21 annual report will be tabled at a date to be confirmed at our regular Wednesday meeting in late July / August. It will include my written report that I did speak to at the Changeover Dinner.
Sunday morning a number of our members provided the BBQ fundraiser at Market Square in support of Hanna Craig. Whilst I wasn’t able to attend due to a family baptism I understand there were around 80 people attended the event and our Rotarians fed a number of these with some wonderful food off our newly purchased asset, a six burner BBQ. Once again thank you to all the Rotarians who helped out on Sunday morning whilst the “ship” was being steered on the day by Don Cardow.
This week’s meeting we will have one of the Priest family speak to us about the Black Dog Institute, so please come along and be more informed about this important institution dealing with Mental Health.
Our Bridges park furniture has been ordered after an onsite meeting with Grafton club reps, so the project will now keep progressing.
This Saturday, Greg myself & Gerelle will attend the District Awards & District Changeover at Mermaid Waters. Amanda will also be attending as the District Awards Chairperson.
I look forward to seeing you all on Wednesday, and our new look Sergeant!
Centenary President,
Robert
