BOB'S BANTER

Thanks to Brian for opening Wednesday’s meeting. I have discovered there is a new spelling for boat, boatt, which stands for “break out another ten thousand.”

Leila reported on the progressive dinner with everything going to plan. Should be a great night and thanks to those who are preparing dishes. Don’t forget to
cost out your dish for reimbursement from Treasurer Robert. As this event is free it would be a good opportunity to bring a guest.

Our guest speaker, our very own Mr Music, Greg led us through his idea for a grand concert to be held at Yulgilbar in April next year. This could be a great
opportunity for us to showcase Rotary as well as make a little for the coffers.

This proposal will be discussed at our next board meeting and a recommendation made to our weekly meeting.

It was a little disconcerting to hear from Lee that the statistic report is showing only 70% of our members are opening the Bulletin let alone reading it. That is aside from our members who do not have internet. The Bulletin is our main source of information keeping in mind that we only have a 1 hour meeting weekly and so I urge you to please keep up to date. If you have an item of interest forward it to Lee for inclusion in the bulletin.

The Group Friendship Exchange with our rotary friends from Wisconsin will start on Monday and thanks to those members hosting. As the group will be
joining us on the 27th for our meeting it would be great if we could invite guests who might like to hear them speak. In anticipation we have booked the Stables
for lunch on that day for our usual luncheon. Don’t forget to inform Richard for numbers.  It would be good if we could meet at the Stables bar for fellowship from 12.30 to meet and greet our guests. Look forward to seeing you there.

Peace and Conflict Prevention/Resolution Month

Of the 60 million people displaced by armed conflict or persecution, 90% are civilians. Half of those civilians are children. That’s millions of reasons why Rotary is so engaged in service projects, fellowships and other Rotary-sponsored campaigns in pursuit of peace in our world.

How Rotary makes help happen

We train adults and young leaders to prevent and mediate conflict. We aid refugees who have fled dangerous areas. Rotarians also address the underlying structural causes of conflict by relieving millions of people suffering from poverty, inequality, ethnic tensions, lack of access to education and unequal distribution of resources.

In yet another program to achieve worldwide peace, up to 100 Rotary Peace Fellows are selected to attend Rotary Peace Centers to participate in master's degree programs at one of the partner universities. Rotary Peace Fellows study subjects related to the root causes of conflict and explore innovative solutions that address real-world needs. There are more than 1,000 peace fellowship alumni are working in over 100 countries. Do you have a Peace Fellow candidate in your community?

JOKE CORNER
Billy Graham was returning to Charlotte after a speaking engagement and when his plane arrived there was a limousine there to transport him to his home. As he prepared to get into the limo, he stopped and spoke to the driver.

'You know' he said, 'I am 87 years old and I have never Driven a limousine. Would you mind if I drove it for a while?'  The driver said, 'No problem. Have at it.'
Billy gets into the driver's seat and they head off down the highway. A short distance away sat a rookie State Trooper operating his first speed trap.
The long black limo went by him doing 70 in a 55 mph zone.

The trooper pulled out and easily caught the limo then got out of his patrol car to begin the procedure. The young trooper walked up to the driver's door and when the glass was rolled down, he was surprised to see who was driving.

He immediately excused himself and went back to his car and called his supervisor. 'I know we are supposed to enforce the law.... but I also know that important people are given certain courtesies. I need to know what I should do because I have stopped a very important person.'

The supervisor asked, 'Is it the governor?'
The young trooper said, 'No, he's more important than that.'
The supervisor said, 'Oh, so it's the president.'
The young trooper said, 'No, he's even more Important than that.'

After a moment, the supervisor finally asked, 'Well then, who is it?'

The young trooper said, 'I think it's Jesus, because he's got Billy Graham for a chauffeur!'
