PRESIDENT'S RUMBLE

Hello everyone, and Happy Jacaranda!

I hope you all have had a good week and enjoying the start of the Jacaranda festivities.

Friday night was the start of the festival with the traditional Queen Crowning, what a night it was. Our very own candidate this year Jess Munro was amazing on the night with her speeches and shone on stage. Whilst unfortunate that Jess didn’t obtain a title on the night she was an absolute honour to have her as an ambassador for not only Jacaranda but for our Rotary club, she did us all proud. I am sure that Jess grew throughout her journey leading up to Crowning night & will now continue her journey over the festival. A huge thank you to Jess for being our candidate & wish her well for the week of festivities.

Last night we experienced a wonderful event under the big marquee at Market Square for our annual Christmas Carols. What a night! Even though the afternoon started off with a fairly intensive storm that placed the event under threat. However after just a short delay in opening the gates the event was to proceed with a delayed start until the water on the roof of the Marquee could be dealt with. Thank you to the team of volunteers that assisted in pushing the water off the roof to make it safe for the patrons. This year in conjunction with Desan, Mark Blackadder & the Jacaranda team, our club collaborated together to bring the event together for our community to enjoy. A huge thank you to the Orchestra, the choir, our very own conductor Greg Butcher along with the very talented Lisa Butcher leading the songs to give our community a long awaited & needed event to enjoy. Our own team led by Peter did an amazing job to ensure that the event went to plan for what Rotary does, is to do well in our community, thank you to all our members who assisted on the night. I must also mention that our very own Santa was a big hit by the “littlies”. They were very excited still that they got to see Santa on the night, so thank you Santa & trust you had a safe trip home! As people were leaving the event we received lots & lots of “Thank you, wonderful, Amazing, great venue” comments from our patrons, which makes what we do all worthwhile. Peter will do a report below on the night.

At Wednesday’s meeting we heard from Zac Masters from the New School of Arts about his passionate programme, “Changing Lanes”. Zac gave a very good overview of this programme which is conducted from the premises previously operated by Luke Whitton located behind the Jacaranda Hotel. Thank you to Zac & wish the programme well.

This Wednesday coming we have Dave Harmon, the district membership chair & district Governor Nominee Elect to address our meeting.

Next Sunday we have the Jacaranda Fun run led by our very own Lee Taylor, so if you haven’t already let Lee know that you can assist on the day please let Lee know.

THIS WEEK GUEST SPEAKER

DAVID HARMON DGN

District Membership chair.

Dave was born in Lismore. He left Lismore in 1983 to begin a Career with TAFE NSW in Granville, Sydney as a Teacher of Engineering Trades. Dave transferred to Coffs Harbour with his wife Robyn in 1990 and continued working there until 2020.

He has a Bachelor of Teaching and has just semi-retired after 37 years as an Engineering Trades Teacher at TAFE with the last 15 years spent in a consultancy role. Dave has developed state-wide curriculum and assessments in Engineering Trades and is qualified as a Pressure Welding Inspector and Certifier. Dave is a recipient of The Director General of Education Award for Excellent Service to Public Education and Training.

He has been a National Judge for World Skills Australia and coached an Australian winner of the World Skills Olympics who was ranked in the top 10 in the world.

Throughout his life he has been involved in various community and sporting organisations. Dave served for 10 years on the Board of Directors for Coffs Coast Hockey Association and has coached and played in representative teams at a state level.

David and Robyn joined the Rotary Club of Ballina on Richmond in 2014. As President of the Rotary Club of Ballina-on-Richmond in 2019 and 2020, Dave, together with his team, initiated and led the club’s dynamic membership growth of attracting 18 new members in 18 months to become the 3rd largest Rotary club in our district with 48 members. It is the largest Rotary club in the NSW side of our district. Dave plans to grow his club to +55 members.

Dave and Robyn have 2 adult sons, a daughter-in-law and 3 grandchildren.

SUCCESSFUL HIGH TEA

High Tea event for our Jacaranda candidate Jess Munro at Vines on Saturday was extremely enjoyable and successful afternoon where the attendees enjoyed sensational food along with a fashion parade supplied by local fashion houses & showcases some of our own members! The afternoon raised around $3,900 for Jess which will go toward the Jacaranda Festival.

Congratulation must go to Chris Lynch & Judy Glasson for organising such a wonderful & well run event.

ENJOYABLE AFTERNOON HAD BY ALL

Members and partners had an enjoyable afternoon at the clubs Christmas Party / Judy Glasson birthday last Sunday at the Crown Hotel.

a few tales were told, good fellowship was had and fine food was enjoyed.

This BBQ is where the funds are being allocated to the

Black Dog Institute who will be attending.
