Hello everyone & a warm welcome to daylight saving! I hope everyone’s body clock’s are getting adjusted to having to wake an hour earlier each day but enjoying the hour more of daylight each afternoon.
This week’s meeting was well attended with our National Youth Science Form student Charlize Girdler & her mum Chris being our guests. Charlize gave the members a short overview of herself and the background with her interests in the NYSF in Canberra in 2021. Charlize will be back to share the forum with us.
Don & Brian gave an update of their visit to Dougherty Villa which is always appreciated by the residents & staff of the Villa with some of the residents enjoying meeting their new friends each month, Thank you Don & Brian. Bob gave us an update of the Defibrillator project continuing in the Grafton & South communities with the securing of the 1st defib.
Another successful raffle night was held on Friday night with the dynamic ticket sellers of Bob & Don selling our best ever result of 306 tickets, a net result of $196 toward the defib. Certainly preselling at our Wednesday meetings helped with the result. Thanks Mick and Sharon for your ongoing support with Mick providing us with 2 x bottles of Taylors wine included in prizes with Judy G taking one home!
Jenny H “22” has secured the date of Saturday 31st October for the screening of the Polio movie of “I am a woman” with the Saraton. She has spoken to the Clocktower Hotel of providing a dinner before the screening at 5.45pm for a 6pm dinner then the screening of the movie at 7pm. We are keen for the other clubs within the valley to be able to support this event as well. Tickets for the Movie will be $15 and Jenny will give us an update of the cost of the meal shortly. Thanks Jenny “22”!. This will be a nice ending of the day after Leila’s birthing kits workshop earlier in the day.
A team from our club went to Nymboida on Saturday to help out with fencing organised by Blazeaid to assist farmers who had lost fences due to the Bushfires. The team consisted of Peter, Don, Des, Herman & yours truly, Pres.
Unfortunately Herman had an early fall at the start of the day and wasn’t able to partake in the fencing project, however in the true spirit of a Rotarian, he waited until his team had completed the fencing before being transported back in Hospital for assessment & treatment. Regrettable he has sustained fairly major damage to his knee, and we are truly sorry & empathetic to Herman and for this incident & subsequent injury.
Blazeaid is made up of total volunteers with fencing provided to the farmers at a nil cost! All meals are provided to Volunteers on the day along with accommodation for the longer term volunteers. I think that Don would have been the only one of the GMR team that would know anything about rural fencing however by lunchtime we all had a reasonable understanding of the process, another skill to add to our club’s experience. Thank you team and we hope Herman has a speedy recovery.
Next Saturday is the Cluster training at Casino. If you would like to attend and haven’t already replied let Greg or myself know and we can share in travelling to Casino.
