JOKE CORNER
A man is walking home alone late one foggy night, when behind him he hears:

BUMP... BUMP... BUMP...
Walking faster, he looks back and through the fog he makes out the image of an upright casket banging it's way down the middle of the street towards him.

BUMP... BUMP... BUMP...
Terrified, the man begins to run towards his home, the casket bouncing quickly behind him.

FASTER... FASTER... BUMP... BUMP... BUMP...
He runs up to his door, fumbled with his keys, opens the door rushes in, slams and locks the door behind him. However the casket crashes through the door, with the lid of the casket clapping.

CLAPPITY-BUMP... CLAPPITY-BUMP... CLAPPITY-BUMP...
On his heels the man runs. Rushing upstairs to the bathroom, the man locks himself in. His heart is pounding; his head is reeling; his breath is coming in sobbing gasps.

With a loud CRASH the casket breaks down the door.
Bumping and clapping towards him.

The man screams and reaches for something, anything, but all he can find is a bottle of cough syrup!

Desperate, he throws the cough syrup at the casket...

And...
..
..

The coffin stops!

Hello everyone. I trust you have all had a good week and the storms that we have had this week haven’t caused too much damage to you. The rain has been excellent though.

This week’s meeting we were able to hear about two very important visitors to a wonderful   Grafton City earlier in the week. Premier Gladys Berejiklian made a surprise visit to   Grafton on Monday, and we had a number of our members meet with her at some stage   including Skye, & Mark B. She had a visit to the famous Iscream to sample a Purple   Jacaranda ice cream so I asked Jeff if he could give us a brief rundown of her visit to   Prince St. Jeff commended Gladys for her naturalism of listening to what people were   saying before she spoke and she appeared to be a very genuine person and a good person   to have at the helm of NSW. Thanks Jeff.

On Tuesday we had another visitor to the city being John Barilaro, deputy premier. From what we understand that John visited the hospital and a small group of Grafton representatives met with him to discuss issues but in particular the Grafton Hospital. Des being one of the long standing spokespersons for the Hospital upgrade gave the meeting a summarisation of the journey that the Hospital upgrade had been on to date. In conclusion Des advised that the Deputy premier did give the group an undertaking of $20m funding to start the Hospital Upgrade project with commencement of construction to start before the end of the current term which is around 1 and a half years. Thank you Des and keep up the great work.

Given that we had these 2 very important persons in town I opted to not have our Member forum this week as it was more important to hear of these visitors that came to our wonderful city when the Purple trees are in blossom.

Judy G has become the champion of Ticket selling beating Lee’s record by 1 ticket! Great work Judy. Following on from the preticket sales on Wednesday a small group of Don, Bob &myself continued with ticket selling ending up with a total of 288 Tickets. Well done to everyone.

Another successful birthing kits working bee occurred on Saturday afternoon at David & Leila’s. We have put together another 150 kits ready to send off to be packed in a container for the islands. Thank you to David & Leila for the hospitality & participation, along with the other team members of Judy G, Bob, Kathryn, Chris L, Don, Lee & myself (later in the afternoon). Well done team!

What a night we had on Saturday night for our Polio Movie fundraiser “I Am Woman”, the life of Australian singer Helen Reddy. The pre movie dinner at the clocktower worked like “clockwork” with Shawn McAnally ushering in our members, friends & guests onto tables and meals being served very quickly. The night raised a total of $2103.80 for Polio, what an achievement given the current times. A huge thank you to Jenny H “22”, and her small team for all her efforts in pulling the great event together. Thank you to the Saraton,  Clocktower,  LV Hair & the Wednesday night rotary trivia members for their contribution also for the night. A great night had by all. It was pleasing to have Anne Farrell attend along with members from Grafton, Maclean & Yamba Rotary clubs attending our night.
This week’s meeting we will be hearing from our fellow Rotarian David Hart on scam / fraudulent emails, so we look forward to David’s presentation of this issue.

Don’t forget the Booksale starts this week on Tuesday afternoon with setting up. Please contact Peter R for more information.

Till Wednesday, have a great start to the week.

ROTARY'S FACTS
OBJECT OF ROTARY

In some areas of the world weekly Rotary club meetings begin with all members standing and reciting the Object of Rotary This statement, which comes from the Constitution of Rotary, is frequently seen on a wall plaque in Rotarians' offices or place of business.
The Object of Rotary is "to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise." The statement then lists four areas by which this "ideal of service" is fostered: "through the development of acquaintance as the opportunity for service; the promotion of high ethical standards in business and professions; through service in one's personal, business and community life; and the advancement of international understanding, goodwill and peace."
The Object of Rotary has not always been expressed in this manner. The original Constitution of 1906 had three objects: promotion of business interests, promotion of good fellowship and the advancement of the best interests of the community By 1910 Rotary had five Objects as increased emphasis was given to expanding Rotary. By 1915 there were six Objects. In 1918 the Objects were rewritten again and reduced to four. Four years later they had again grown to six and were revised again in 1927.
Finally, at the 1935 Mexico City Convention the six Objects were restated and reduced to four. The last major change came in 1951, when the "Objects" were streamlined and changed to a single "Object" which is manifested in four separate ways. The "ideal of service" is the key phrase in the Object of Rotary. This ideal is an attitude of being a thoughtful and helpful person in all of one's endeavors. That's what the Object truly means.

The mission of The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International is to enable Rotarians to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through the improvement of health, the support of education, and the alleviation of poverty.
